Moda Love Quilts...

I've been piecing Moda Love Quilts

This is the first Moda Love quilt top

I pieced with 5 inch charm squares...

I had another charm pack in the stash,

so I pieced another one...

I was not happy with this lay out...

I thought the inner star points should be red...

So, I ripped out the center of the quilt and

pieced red star points...

Much better with red star points

and the final red border treatment...

I found a mini 2.5 inch charm pack

in the stash...

You can see from the piece of paper,

that this will be a small quilt...

This star will finish about 15 inches square...

I am thinking a table topper.

That's as far as I got today...more to come !

The Peonies are really putting on a show...

The Peony blooms are gigantic this year !

This lime green hosta is also putting on a show...

Gigantic and beautiful lime green leaves !

The cattle are keeping us on our toes...

We have had a very dry spring

here in Western Oregon

and moving the cattle to new pasture

is a steady job to keep them fed.

Next week we begin to make hay...

More to Come.

Happy Summer Everyone !

High Desert Mule Deer Quilt...DONE !

Remember the Mule Deer Panel...

I got it under the needle last week...

I quilted it in about 6 hours on my

Sweet Sixteen

Sit-Down Long Arm...

This is my Big Girl Machine

and she knows how to get things done !

Time to trim it up square...

I use the Omnigrip 20 inch Square

The binding strips are cut...

The Binding is stitched on...

The label is sewn on the back corner...

The High Desert Mule Deer quilt

is in the mail and on the way

to comfort a dear friend...

No, you are not seeing double...

The Cowboy liked this quilt soooo much...

I made one for him.

It is under the needle now and will

be quilted and bound soon.

Cougar Quilt....Ta-Done !

I started designing this Cougar Panel

back in March...

I had FUN creating lots of different

sampler blocks as a border treatment...

The machine quilting is complete

and I am binding it today...

For machine bindings,  I clip ever inch

of the binding so it does not move

when I am stitching it in place...

I stitch in the ditch on the front side...

I included a hanging sleeve on the back,

so we can display it in our living room...

You can also see the back side of

the binding stitched down.

I just need to add a quilt label

on the back and it is ready to hang...

It feels good to get another quilt finished !

We have been busy moving the cattle

to summer pasture...

The new lilac is blooming this week...

The new iris bed is also blooming...

I dug these up last fall and moved them

from the front flower bed to the

back yard.

The newly planted Giant Allium are in bloom...

After 130 inches of rain last winter...

we are enjoying the sunshine

and warmer weather.

Gets me motivated to get things done !

Mule Deer Quilt...

We are in need of a quilt to comfort

a very dear friend...

We found this Mule Deer panel

and auditioned a few fabrics

from my cupboards in the Thread Shed...

I think this grouping should work nicely

and lots of texture !

I found a block to piece into borders

from this book...

Twin Star Quilt Block....12 inches

My work table is all set up and ready

for stitching, when I can sneak in here

and sew for a few minutes here and there...

First block cut out and on the

design board...

As time allowed...

I stitched a block or two and over a week's

time I completed 6 Twin Star blocks...

At this point...

I chose a pale brown to border the deer panel

and I need to stitch the star borders in place...

I auditioned the wagon wheels

for the final border and...

I really like it !

This photo does not do this quilt top justice...

It is so beautiful in person.

Here we are at the basting table...

Warm & White works for most all my quilts...

I baste with nothing but 505 Spray..

This is now spray basted and

ready to go under the needle.

It's that time of year here at

The Kessi Ranch

We are gathering up all of the cow and calf pairs

to get them vaccinated, wormed and branded.

The Cowboy is putting fly tags

on Golden Girl.

Yes, she is the mama of Elsa

the frozen calf, who is doing

wonderfully well!

More To Come !
