Improv....Wild Goose Chase.....Progress

This is what the improv piece looked

like a week ago on the design wall

I have continued to add more flying geese units

around the outside edges...

I am slowly filling in all the gaps...

I started to piece the top together...

it is like a puzzle putting all of these units

together of all varied sizes.

There are so many seams,

the quilt is shrinking in all directions

as I piece it together...

It is becoming one cohesive unit...

I am in the process of adding a new row

to the right side...

then I can piece all of the vertical rows together.

More to Come...

Improv Piecing.....Wild Goose Chase

In the last 2 weeks I have spent some time

with my latest improv project...

This is what it looked like 2 weeks ago:

I was just getting a few blocks up

on the design wall...

It is growing...

All of these flying geese units together,

remind me of a Wild Goose Chase...

My scraps are dwindling...

I am using fabrics scraps from hexagon quilt

I made a few years back.

I will keep adding geese units
until the scraps run out...

The Thread Shed has a new addition:

Sunflower Quilt Block

The Sunflower Quilt block looks great

on the yellow Thread Shed...

Here is a BURST of COLOR for you:

Pink Lupine

This is blooming just outside the front door.

Spring is very slow coming to the Pacific Northwest

this year, but it is on the way!

Improv Piecing and Spring in Western Oregon...

I am trying to finish up some improv pieces

I started back in 2020...

I put a few up on the design wall...

I have a good start...

I think I will make lots more !

I went through the scrap bag and found pieces

leftover from a hexagon quilt I made

quite a few years ago:

I separated the scraps by color...

Doesn't this just make you want to

sit down and stitch?

While I stitch improv triangles,

I can see how they work together

across the room on the design wall...

I haven't spent too much time

at the sewing machine lately...

I have been behind the wheel of the tractor

spraying tansy in the pastures here at home...

The goats are not very happy about

that noisy tractor in their pasture !

These Boer Goats love to eat

the blackberry vines in our fields...

I call them our "Weed Eaters."

They love to come up to the yard fence

and beg for Ritz crackers...

Our Canada Geese population

is really growing the last few years:

The geese in the pasture were not bothered

at all by the tractor...

They continued to graze while

I drove the tractor around...

The Iris bed is beginning to bloom:

It is FUN to watch for the first blooms

each Spring...

The Hostas are beginning to emerge...

The Rhodie buds are just opening...

Our calving season ended in May and we have

lots of beautiful calves in the pastures:

We drove across the river to check on the

replacement heifers

and their first calves...

They are young and curious and come right up

to our vehicle to check us out...

Within minutes, we are surrounded by them...

Always FUN to spend time with the young cattle !

Quilt Retreat....Day 5

Look at this gorgeous Quilt !

My aunt made this and I fell in love with it...

I foolishly decided I needed to make it too !

I have been working on this on Mondays

@ the Quilt Palace:

Reflected Harmony

Quilt Kit

16 different fabrics....neatly labeled

Here we go.....Month 1:

Month 2:

Months 1 and 2.....on the Design Wall

Here it is Day 5 of the Quilt Retreat:

I whipped out Month 3 and began cutting...

There was so much cutting to do,

I just had to find a way to

organize all of the pieces:

Zip Loc bags to the rescue...

Most of these squares are 1.5 inches...

This was a bit of a nightmare !

By the end of the retreat,

all I managed to do was complete the cutting:

I pitched the baggies in a bowl and

left them by my machine

to stitch together next Monday...

We all had a great time at Quilt Retreat:

especially the Quilt Palace Kitty !
