Moving Cattle...

The lilacs are blooming...

That means it is time to move the cattle...

Most of the cows have calved.

The winter pasture is exhausted.

It is time to move the cattle up river

to spring pasture...

2 miles of narrow and winding road...

The cow and calf pairs are on the road...

The cows do this every year,

they know the way.

There are three of us on the cattle drive today...

It is a beautiful day to move cows...

First stop is the barn lot.

We will sort off the cows for breeding...

Some of the cows will be bred by Shorthorn bulls.

The others will be bred by Angus bulls.

The sorting is all done.

Time to move them down the road again.

The cattle are happy to be in lush, green fields.

Everything went smoothly today.

Very little traffic on the road.

The cows and calves all cooperated.

The bulls loaded in the trailer easily.

It was a good day!

Jello Printing.....Class Prep

I am leading a class in Jello Printing in June...

I am feeling a bit rusty,

so I decided to play a bit today.

Golden Open Acrylics

Give you more open time

I am printing on a Gelli Plate today.

I prefer a Jello Plate made with Knox Gelatin,

but this is an impromptu play day,

so no time to wait for the gelatin to set up.

I am using lots of found objects

and a few commercial stencils...

Ghost Print.....always my favorite!

Just like riding a bike...

Gelli Printing comes right back to you!

Remember this pretty heifer?

Golden Girl

We have been watching her grow

for more than 2 years...

This week she had her very first baby.....awww

Golden Girl adores her new baby.

She is a wonderful, attentive, loving mother.

We are at the tail end of calving season.

We are hoping to finish up in the next few weeks.

Turkey Vultures......They're Back!

Turkey Vultures

These beautiful birds are back...

We pass them each morning on our way

to the cow barns...

They spread their wings and enjoy

a solar bath to keep the bacteria

off of them.

Spring Time @ Kessi Farms...

Spring has arrived here in Western Oregon

I am not listening to the hum of

my sewing machine.

I am hearing the ROAR of the tractor...

I am spending this week in the hay fields...

dragging mole hills.

The light spots on the right side, are mole hills.

Knocking down mole hills keeps the hay crop

cleaner when we mow hay in June.

This juvenile bald eagle

kept me company while I was on the tractor.

This adult bald eagle

also kept watch over the hay field.

Just as I stepped off the tractor,

one of our heifers was giving birth:

I was able to catch the delivery on video.

I pulled out the neutral and earth tone buttons

I layered the buttons...

First Layer....Large Buttons

Second Layer.....Tiny Buttons

The gold chain went nicely with the earth tones...

The next time I head into town...

this baby will be around my neck!

We are still spending lots of time

over at the cow barns:

The cowboy just finished tagging a new calf.
