Chickadee Whole cloth Quilt....Progress

We are in the third hay field today...

The pink foxgloves are in full bloom...

We have nearly 300 round bales so far...

In the background is the goat barn...

I was able to slip away from the hay fields 

in the late afternoon...

I ran right into the Thread Shed

and jumped on the Sweet 16...

The Chickadee Whole cloth Quilt 

is waiting for me!

I am using MicroQuilter Thread in the needle.

Bottom Line in the bobbin.

These super fine threads are working 

beautifully on this satin fabric.

Here is a BEFORE photo of the quilt...

Here is an AFTER photo of the quilt.

Any day I can sit down and stitch feathers...

is a good day!

At this point I am done with all of the 

large feather motif work...

Next time I will begin the tiny fill work.

Whole cloth....Chickadee Quilt

Life in the hay fields continues...

As time allows, I have been able to get away 

from the hay fields

to stitch for a few hours in the Thread Shed...

I am working on the 

Chickadee Wholecloth Quilt:

Basic Design Lines.....on tracing paper

At this point all of the basic design lines 

have been stitched...

It is time to stitch the large feather motifs...

Here is a BEFORE image...

Here is an AFTER stitching image...

I am using a layer of wool batting

and a layer of cotton batting

After a couple of hours under the needle...

I had to go back to the hay fields.

I just have the border feathers to go.

Fill Work on tracing paper:

The last thing to stitch is the Fill Work

A few more hours...here and there...

this baby is moving right along!

Working Cattle.....July 2017

While we are waiting for the mowed hay fields

to dry out so we can rake and bale them...

We are working cattle...

cow and calf pairs

This is our work table

The cattle are in the sorting pens...

The crowding alley and squeeze chute...

The first bunch of cows 

are loaded and ready to work...

The cowboy puts new ear tags on the cows...

These are fly tags...

they keep the flies off the cattle.

Pen of calves.....2 to 4 months old

The calves get fly tags in their ears...

They are also vaccinated, wormed and branded.

Tomorrow the hay field will be ready for baling.

Discharging Hand Dyes w/Stencils

It is hay season here in Western Oregon

I am not in front of my sewing machine...

I am behind the wheel of an 

International  Tractor...

I spent 6 hours mowing 

our first hay field...

4 more fields to go.

The yearling cattle kept me company all day.

Getting the hay crop in 

will take a couple of weeks.

In the mean time, here are some

new fabrics I created by

discharging my hand dyes with stencils...
