Quilting Sketch Book....Plume Background Fill

At first glance this looks like feathers...

It is plume shapes used as a background fill:

This is how I stitch it out...

You can fill a lot of space quickly with this design.

Here it is stitched into a baby quilt:

No marking required for this plume design...

Just remember to keep changing directions.

Life in the Hay Field:

Brad continues to make big bales...

The red baler on the back of the tractor makes

6 foot round bales that weight 700 pounds

After a day in the hay field we head for home:

It feels good to pull down the driveway...

Some of the yearling cattle are shading up

under the cherry tree in the front yard...

The Yellow Thread Shed sits idle...

...no quilting for me.

The red hen house has a new paint job.

The flower beds out front are filling in nicely...

Gunnr finds a place to rest after a long day

in the hay field...

We sit on the front step and watch the sunset

In the early morning hours...

I love the way the sunlight filters

across the flower beds...

Some of the blooms remain shaded,

while others are lit up in the morning sunshine...

Quilting Sketch Book...

I have been playing with background fill designs.

Here is one that I drew around a feather:

Dense quilting in the background will

help the feather to pop-out on the quilt surface.

Here is the stem line I drew out randomly...

Here it is filled in with plumes...FUN!

When I am feeling rusty, I draw out this

S Curve and Clam Shell design

to warm me up and get me going.

It also makes a great warm up on the machine!

Here is my little portable green house:

I planted the seeds May 1st...

They germinate better in the green house

than they do in the cooler Western Oregon soil.

I have been busy the last two weeks

planting the flower starts all over the yard...

...I finished planting today!

Here is what is blooming today:

Orange Gerber Daisy

Red Dahlia

Pink Star Lily

I even think this Teasel weed is pretty

by the rusty corral.

Quilting Sketch Book....Asymmetrical Feathers

A Peek into my Quilting Sketch Book

This is a one sided or asymmetrical feather

The plumes are stitched on one side only

Instead of plumes, I added leaves to this one

I learned these years ago from a tutorial DVD

Look what's blooming in the front yard:

Light Blue Hydrangea

Also in the front yard:

Dark blue Hydrangea

They look purple in the strong sun light

Freckles the cow mama and her yearling calves

are just outside the front yard fence.

Life continues in the Hay Fields:

3 Hay fields have been cut, raked and baled...

3 more hay fields to go...

Gunnr enjoys the summer breeze from the back seat

of the pick up parked in the hay field...

Life is Good!
