Ice Dyeing......Batching

I did some ice dyeing on Tuesday...

Wednesday......still lots of ice yet to melt

Today is Thursday......

I moved the dye buckets to the wood stove

They can batch here for a couple of days and warm up!

This is what it looks like outside today:

It is snowing just outside the back door.

The river is high and muddy from the stormy weather.

Gunnr says not to worry about him...

He is cozy and warm watching TV.

I will post images of the iced fabric as soon as its ready.

Hexagon Text Quilt......Border Fabric

I dug through the fabric cupboard and pulled out a few 

possible suspects for border fabrics for the 

Hexy Text quilt top:

I think a few rows of darker hexagons will work for a 

border treatment on this hexagon quilt top...

Fabrics on the left side:

Scraffito by P and B Textiles

Fabrics on the right:

Whatever I could find in the fabric cupboard

The Scraffito fabrics have so much texture...

My mish mash of whatever I could find in the cupboard

also works as a border treatment...

 I decided to try out a few hexagons cut from the

Scraffito fabric line:

How FUN are these?

I guess you know where I will be tonight...

Western Oregon has been stormy the last week or two:

We spent a day at the coast shopping this week...

The ocean was rough and gorgeous!

The next few images from the coast will make

excellent thermofax screens:

 Along with the stormy weather here...

We had a dusting of snow yesterday.

The rose in front of the house is still hanging in there.

Yesterday I spent the day ice dyeing fabrics and shibori dyeing too.

When the fabrics have batched and washed I will show you 

the results.

African Mask.....Class Sample

I started working on this African Mask 2 weeks ago,

but was struggling, so put it away...

Here's what happened today:

I auditioned the mask on black background fabric...

then I tried yellow background fabric...

I tried out a few embellishments...

the embellishments show up equally well on both 

the dark and light background fabrics...

I decided I like the drama of the black fabric:

We are never short on chicken feathers around here,

so I added a feather head dress to the mask

 and fused it down.

Fused down yellow fabric for eyes and mouth...

Black wooden beads for eyes and a key for the nose...

Drawer pulls for the ears and nails for earrings...

All of the embellishments are stitched on by hand...

I need to bind the edges and mount it on stretched canvas.

Collage Houses.....1-2-3

I spent the day preparing new class samples

for  House Collage Class next week:

Fusible Timtex....cut into house shape

Now the FUN begins:

Fuse fabric scraps onto the Timtex house...

I put on a few scraps, then fuse, then add more scraps...

This is the third little house.....they are addicting!

This makes a good background....but they need a focal point.

 I pulled out the stencils:

I decided to go with a bird theme.....the RAVEN is my muse

 Then I pulled out the Thermofax Screens:

Margaret Applin just made this feather screen for me...

These are becoming......bird houses!

The last house is stenciled and screened...

They still need something more:

I pulled out my lunch box full of found metal objects...

The metal house numbers play nicely with the stenciled numbers.

Fused Collage Houses

The students will be able to complete these in a 3 hour class.

Labels fused to the back.

Rusted Fabric scraps made great backing fabric.

I decided to do a final photo shoot with the RAVEN:

All of the sudden.....GUNNR is interested in what is going on

Yup, he is up on the table to get a personal introduction

to the RAVEN...
