Sketch Book......Botanical Designs

I am inspired by nature...

Here are a few Botanical designs
from the Sketch Book:
Simple Leaf Shapes with echo meandering...

Leaves with more vein lines...

I enjoyed drawing all of these graceful lines...

Ferns

I saw this design in an elevator:
This is what the carpet in the elevator looked like...

It looks good vertically and horizontally.

Sketch Book.....Background Fillers

Here are a few background fill designs
from the Sketch Book...

This has a flowing, organic look to it.
I draw out random, wavy, vertical lines.
Then I fill circle shapes between the lines.

This design would look good in a quilt with
a river on it.

I like to do bubble or pebble quilting:
Sometimes I fill the bubbles in with different shapes and lines.
At the top of the page are all the different designs I used
in the bottom portion of the page.

This design combines bubbles and swirls:
I would consider all of these beginner level designs.
Give them a Try!

This motif is called:  Cry Baby Meander
I have stitched it out on these
Orange Zipper Bags.

Sketch Book.....

More Inspiration from
the Sketch Book...

Drawing quilting designs on paper
reinforces them into your muscle memory...

When you can comfortably draw them out on paper,
then go to the machine and give them a try.
Some of us are visual learners...
Here are video tutorials to show you how these
designs are stitched out on a quilt surface:

Sketch Book....

This design isn't really a feather...

just plumes:

Random plumes to fill the background areas of a quilt

The bottom portion of the page is a diagram to remind
me how to stitch this design out.

Below is a fabric sandwich with random plumes
stitched all over:

The following designs are lined up in a vertical row:
It helps to chalk mark lines on the quilt before quilting.
I drew pencil lines in the sketch book, then used the lines
to keep me drawing the design an even distance apart.

Professional Quilter - Pam Clark designed a stencil to
quickly chalk the lines on your quilt....it works great!

In the green border on this baby quilt, I chalked straight
vertical lines all along the border...
Then free motion quilted long loops along the borders.
Fast, FUN and Easy!

Summer...

Silver Laced Wyandotts and Rhode Island Reds

They just started laying tiny pullet eggs...
Barred Rock

The Hollyhocks growing by the Thread Shed are blooming

 and so are the hydrangeas...

Does anyone know what plant this is?
The leaves are gorgeous...

The tiny fruits are beautiful too!
It is a mystery plant to me...

I have spent some time in the Thread Shed this summer
finishing the piecing on the Green Quilt Top.

I have also machine quilted a Baby Quilt.

Most of our time has been spent in the hay fields,
cutting firewood for the winter heat supply
and shipping the yearling cattle.

We are now preparing to replace the old linoleum flooring in
the Thread Shed with wood laminate.
Wish us Luck!

Bumble Birds...

The flowerbeds are full of
Bumble Birds..... aka Humming Birds

I took these images through a dusty window
so the camera had difficulty focusing.

If they inspire you, please feel free to use them
in your personal art work.
