Feeling Groovy.....More Design Work

Day 3

This is where the Feeling Groovy Quilt
was at when I left the Thread Shed last night:

I love all of these fabrics...

but not all at one time...

They seem to be shouting at me!

I took them all off the design wall:

I chose the earthy, calmer tones above

These are the fabrics that didn't make it back
up on the design wall.

Then I decided it needed some sashing fabric
between the blocks to separate them a bit:

I auditioned several shades of brown behind the blocks

The quilt appears much darker...
I want to keep it light and feeling groovy.

The mustard yellow striped fabric on the right,
behind the blocks, is brighter and adds texture...

Let's put some blocks up and see how they look...

Calmer and Warmer...

I will go with the yellow stripe as a sashing fabric

I am auditioning smaller blocks in the center
of some of the squares

I feel like I am on the right track with this quilt.

More Tomorrow...

The Peeps.....are HERE

8am.....The Peeps arrived at the Feed Store:

They flew into Portland Airport...

We rushed to the feed store to pick them up...

They arrive in little boxes...

They are sorted by breed...

They are 2 days old.....the size of a cotton ball

The feed store keeps them here...

The heat lamps keep them cozy and warm...

They go right to the water feeder.....
They are thirsty after their ride on the airplane.

Gunner patiently waits outside in the pick up:

Gunnr just adores the baby chicks

Gunnr gives them a good smell,
then we head home with the new babies

Brad unloads each chick and gives them a drink of water

Rhode Island Red Chick

Wyandotte Chick

Gunnr is excited to have baby peeps again...

Within minutes the baby chicks are eating and drinking
and scurrying all around the brooder box

The chicks will be raised in the 4 x 8 foot brooder box
over the next 3 months
until they are big enough to live in the hen house

This will be Gunnr's view...

while the chicks are living on our patio behind the house

Now I better head out to the Thread Shed and
get to work on the

Calypso.....on the bed

This is the Calypso Quilt I made for our son
last month:

We stopped by his apartment today.
He wasn't at home....but his bed was made...

I think he likes his quilt...

He's been sleeping under it...

It looks even better on his bed!

My work here is done!

Feeling Groovy Quilt...

Day 1

I have had these fabrics on the design wall
for a few weeks...

I am planning a birthday quilt for our youngest son.

Brad came out to the Thread Shed and looked
at the design wall and said,
"Feeling Groovy"

So I guess this quilt has a name and I haven't even cut
one piece of fabric for it yet!

for
Feeling Groovy Quilt

Today I pulled the fabrics off the wall and
started the ironing process...

40 different fat quarters

That should make a queen size quilt...

After all of the ironing,
I cut them into 8 inch squares:

Why 8 inch squares?
That is a good size to get the most out of a fat quarter

Plus, the designs are large, so I don't want to cut
the fabric into small pieces and lose the cool surface designs.

100+ Blocks

I am inspired by this Happy Hour Book.

Everything is all packed into a Pizza Box...
It is ready when I am.

Last week I dropped my Nikon camera...
on the floor....eek!
While I am seeking repair work,
I am using my old Olympus camera.
Glad to have it...
