Free Motion Darning Feet......Improved

Check out this line up of
Free Motion/Darning Feet:

These sewing machine feet have been altered
to improve visibility during free motion quilting.

My favorite guy snipped out the front section on the
plastic foot with wire cutters.
(He normally fixes fence with his wire cutters, but they worked great for this too!)

There is no longer plastic in the front of the foot to
obscure visibility during free motion quilting.

Singer 301 Darning Foot
Yes, he even cut the front out of this foot.
It worked like a charm.

Check out this visibility!

When my mother in law found out we were altering
free motion feet, she ran right down with hers!

Here she is with Gunnr:

Gunnr just had to see what was going on at the
kitchen table.

Speaking of Gunnr:

He spent the weekend in Nevada
on the 14th floor of the Nugget Casino

He was a polite hotel guest and enjoyed his stay!
He was a bit disappointed to find out he could not
go see Glen Campbell with us.

Inspiration.....from the Flower Bed

As a child I remember my grand father
telling me...
"When you work, you find money"

I would scratch my head and wonder just
what he meant by that?

As I grew up, I would help out with the household chores
and occasionally find money under the couch cushions.

As an adult, when I work I choose to find...
INSPIRATION

Today we spent the day cleaning out the flower beds.

I would have preferred to spend the day
in the Thread Shed with the sewing machine
humming along...

But, this was a job that could be avoided no longer!

The Roses needed trimming...

and so did the Calla Lilies...

All of the plants need to be tucked away for the winter.

This bumble bee was busy too!

As we trimmed down the flower beds...

There were so many pretty flowers still
putting on a show for us...

We decided to gather them up and bring them
inside to fill a few vases in the house...

We ended up with 5 Buckets of flowers!

Yes, we worked today...
But I found something worth more than money...

I found so much inspiration for my future quilts!

Please feel free to use these images in your personal
art work if they inspire you too!

I am hoping to be in the Thread Shed soon...

Soy Wax...

Earlier this week I played with hot Soy Wax...

I was having such a great time that I
forgot to take pictures of my progress...

At this stage of the process:
The fabrics have been stamped with hot wax.
I used different kitchen gadgets as stamps.

Then I watered down textile paint and
painted over the entire piece of fabric.
The wax acted as a resist.
The paint did not absorb where the wax was stamped.

After the paint was dry...
I placed parchment paper on top of the fabric and
heat set the textile paint.
This also removed most of the soy wax from the fabric.

Then I placed the ironed fabrics in the
washing machine set on HOT wash.

Here they are drying on the clothesline today:

This was a sampler I created to test out all of
the kitchen gadgets,
to determine which worked best for hot wax stamping

The soy wax worked great as a resist...

The waxed areas remain white like the original
color of the fabric.

I think I will go in again and stamp these same fabrics
with hot wax, paint them, and see what I get.

Also, I plan to stamp hot wax on commerical fabrics, then the waxed area will have some color other than white.

The Latest from Colorado...

We heard from Heath last night...

Heath is enjoying his last few weeks in Colorado.

His Internship with the Forest Service this summer
has been a positive experience for him.

He has met and worked with some terrific people...

And, learned so much.

He is a different person from when he left Oregon
a few months ago.

Lightning Storms have started fires in the area.
The recent rain has helped get the fire under control,
along with planes flying over with repellent.
