Thanksgiving Greetings...

Happy Thanksgiving

The Harlan Bird Boy
Heath 1993

Our son at age 8 years
He hand raised turkeys, ducks, geese & chickens.
For Christmas one year he was thrilled to receive an incubator.
It was not uncommon to walk into his room and see baby ducks hatching on his desk.
One time we caught him in the bathtub, with baby ducklings swimming around him.

Today we are thankful for the privilege of raising our two sons.

Wishing you a day filled with gratitude...

p.s. Heath is now 25 years of age, is finishing up his last year of schooling and volunteers part time at a local wild life rescue clinic. His favorite animals at the clinic are the eagles.

Baby Quilt.....Tag Team Style

This is what I worked on today:

Baby Quilt

My sister pieced the top and backing fabric
She spray basted the quilt sandwich
Then she handed it off to me...

I am doing the quilting...

We are expecting a baby niece.....soon.

We are both chasing our tails this time of year with the holidays nipping at our heels!

But, we still wanted to get something made for the new baby.

After I am done with the quilting,
my sister will do the binding and label.

The baby shower is this month...
If the quilt isn't done in time...
Let's blame it on my sister!

Raffle Quilt......Done

Yes, I went in and quilted all over the applique' work on this quilt.

This is a huge flower and it was puffy and wrinkly...
I just had to go in and quilt it down.
It lays nicely and is more in sync with the rest of the quilting.

A feathery vine is quilted into the borders...

The background, behind the applique' work is a sort of feather fill design.
You can fill a lot of space quickly with this motif.

Just outside the front door...

Yes.... Hydrangeas blooming in November
We are enjoying a gorgeous autumn here in Western Oregon

The quilt is bound and even has a hanging sleeve attached.
On Monday I will hang the quilt and get a photo of the entire quilt.
I will post it next week.

Grape Leaf......Inspiration

I am heading out to the Thread Shed to finish up the quilting on the Raffle Quilt, but before I go I thought I would share some inspiration from the back yard...

Grape Arbor

Looking through the grape arbor across the river to the cow barns

Last month the leaves were much more brilliant than they are now.
Glad I had the camera with me to capture them...

What I find most interesting about the grape leaves is how intensely lime green the veins are...

The grape leaf images have inspired me to print them on fabric...

I cropped most of the images and concentrated on the veins:

Grape Leaf Images......Printed on Fabric

I am anxious to get these up on the design wall and see where it takes me.

But, right now I need to get the quilting, hanging sleeve & label done on the raffle quilt before I can get started on anything new...

Feel Free to use these images in your personal art work.
Always glad to share...

Raffle Quilt.......Machine Quilting

I am back at it again...

Yes, the Raffle Quilt

I feel a bit rusty...
It has been over a month since I had this under the needle.
I need to finish the feather fill in the background areas.

Then I plan to do a feathery vine in the border:

At this point I could call it done...

It is 8pm and I am tired...

Tomorrow I will probably go in and quilt all over the applique flowers, vines and leaves.
I am not a fan of puffy applique...

Pacific Sunset.....Leaves
This afternoon I went outside to eat my lunch and admire this tree.

Just couldn't resist bringing a few of these back into the house and press them in a phone book.
This winter they will be used for jello printing, leaf stamping, tracing, masking, etc.

Quilting Motifs.......While Traveling

Autumn in Idaho

Once in awhile Brad manages to get the camera out of my hands.
He took this incredible photo in Idaho last fall.

He prefers to be behind the wheel when we travel,
so this is what I do:

Practice Quilting Motifs at 55 mph

Just lift up the plastic to erase,
then keep drawing more...

Drawing out your quilting motifs like this really helps.
It mentally prepares you, so that when you get on the sewing machine your brain and your hands are ready to work together.

Give it a Try !
