We are 2 weeks into Calving Season
here in rainy Western Oregon
The Cowboy has been spending lots of time
tagging new baby calves...
Mama Cows with their new babies...
I am in the pick up looking out the
side view mirror...
the Cowboy is on the tractor loading hay
He has me all loaded up with hay...
This is one of our new heifers, Vicky,
with her very first baby.
She is a great mama cow already !
Each morning baby calves greet us when
we walk into the silo...
Cows and calves in the silo...

#10 and #11 are adorable!! Hoping you have a perfect calving season, with no calves lost and no calves rejected! Of course, the bottle calves are fun for us but so much more work for you!! Any new babies with the goats? How are the bottle calves of 2/3 years ago?
ReplyDeleteI just captured a video of the bottle calves, which are now 4 years old. I will get it posted real soon.

Thank you - they have grown up so much!!! Hard to believe it has been 4 years!!!
DeleteI love the colors in your first picture, the one with the Mama and new baby. The cow looks like what we would call a shorthorn breed. What breed is she? Really do enjoy your farm pictures . . . they bring back special memories for me.
ReplyDeleteHowdy Barb,
DeleteYes, our mother cows are Shorthorn. The Kessi Family has been raising them for nearly 100 years now. The Kessi family homesteaded here in 1911. In 2011 we celebrated becoming a Century Farm. So glad you are enjoying the posts.

We had 3 calves in one day. It’s my favorite time of year. They are our neighbor’s cows that graze on our land. We get all the fun and none of the work. I’m in Texas and enjoyed watching your video with a cow operation in a different setting. Your place in beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are enjoying the farming posts. Many thanks for your very kind comments.
