Fabric Wrapped......Rug

Instead of creating a fabric wrapped bowl...

I am making a fabric wrapped rug!

Day 1

I wrapped one inch strips of fabric

around clothesline rope.

I coiled up the rope and began to

zig zag stitch in a circle...

3/16 cotton clothesline rope

100 feet of wrapped clothesline

creates a 19 inch circle...

200 feet of wrapped clothesline

creates a 27 inch circle...

This is what the rug looks like at the end of Day 1

Day 2

300 feet of wrapped clothesline

creates a 33 inch circle...

400 feet of clothesline creates a

39 inch circle.

I used 5 yards of fabric and

nearly 2,000 yards of thread.

This is a gift for someone special!

It was FUN to create...

I better make another one soon!

I have an acrylic table on my sewing machine which supported a lot of the rug, it gets heavy when you get over 30 inches, that helped.  The rug stays flat for the most part.  When I was done, I laid it on a flat surface and smoothed it out with my hands from the center out toward the edges and it is flat as a pancake!

This size can easily be washed in my large capacity front loading washing machine, then air dry flat.  You could also take it to the laundrymat and wash it in one of their BIG washers.
