Just wanted to drop a note and say "THANK YOU" for all the machine quilting inspiration that you share with us all. You are my go-to person for quilting ideas - especially as I use a domestic machine and not a long arm. All of your designs are doable!! I don't comment very often, but visit a lot! It would be grand fun to be neighbors - we also have a small farm, though I definitely do not have your beautiful flowers!!!

I machine quilted on a domestic machine with a 7 inch throat for 25 years, so that is why my designs are so suitable for small machines. This is my second year with my Sweet Sixteen sit down long arm and I do appreciate the extra space to move the quilt, but I still move the quilt myself, so will continue to develop quilting designs for this purpose. My Best To You!

Hi LuAnn - thanks again for posting wonderful pictures! I was wondering what kind of batting you use. Your designs stand out so nicely - mine usually look flat. BTW - thanks for posting sketches. I need to pick up my sketch book again so that I don't loose the FMQ memory between quilts. It will be a while before the next one is ready to FMQ!!!

ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments. I use lots of different battings depending on the project. For my personal bed quilts I like wool batting best. The quilting stands out beautifully on wool. When the quilt is folded for storage, the wool doesn't get crease lines as easily as cotton batt. Plus, wool is cool in the summer and warm in the winter when the quilt is on the bed.
For wall quilts that must lie flat and straight, cotton is a better choice. I even like the new green batting for wall quilts, they lie very flat, straight and no wavy edges when hanging on the wall.
