Paul Harvey........in Yellowstone

While you have been enjoying my Sketch Book posts
the last two weeks...

We have been in Yellowstone National Park
visiting our son...

He is working for the Fish and Wildlife
department this summer.
It was a great excuse to go see him....and the park!

You can see that my Paul Harvey quilt came along to Yellowstone too!

I never leave home without it.....and the camera.

We have visited the park a dozen times over the years and enjoy seeing all of the wildlife.
This year I became infatuated with the RAVENS.
A raven quilt is definitely calling to me.

I brought along my featherweight 221
and pieced in the evenings.
I filled up several pages in sketch books while traveling.
I will share them with you in the coming days.

For now I am doing non-quilting tasks like unpacking all of the camping gear, washing laundry, going through mail and editing photos.

More to come...

Enjoy the rest of your SUMMER!

Sketch Book......Zentangle Style Designs

These are my most recent drawings
from the Sketch Book...

They have a Zentangle look to them.
To me, it is doodling...very relaxing:

Long, skinny triangles...
fill them in with anything.

Separate the page with horizontal lines...
then fill each area in with anything you like.

This was a lot of fun to draw out:
Draw out a long loopy line......then trace back along that line
about a half inch away from it.
This gives you lots of odd shaped background sections
that you fill in with anything you like.

Sketch Book....Background Fillers

Here are a few more background fill designs
from the Sketch Book...

I enjoyed drawing the long flowing organic lines
in this design...

Circle shapes are always happy...

Another design with an organic feel to it...

These have a modern feel to them...

A plume design...

This fills a background very quickly....curls and leaves

Swirls with plumes around them...

These designs can be used as background fillers, in border areas,
a central motif with a filler added around them.

Sketch Book......Botanical Designs

I am inspired by nature...

Here are a few Botanical designs
from the Sketch Book:
Simple Leaf Shapes with echo meandering...

Leaves with more vein lines...

I enjoyed drawing all of these graceful lines...

Ferns

I saw this design in an elevator:
This is what the carpet in the elevator looked like...

It looks good vertically and horizontally.

Sketch Book.....Background Fillers

Here are a few background fill designs
from the Sketch Book...

This has a flowing, organic look to it.
I draw out random, wavy, vertical lines.
Then I fill circle shapes between the lines.

This design would look good in a quilt with
a river on it.

I like to do bubble or pebble quilting:
Sometimes I fill the bubbles in with different shapes and lines.
At the top of the page are all the different designs I used
in the bottom portion of the page.

This design combines bubbles and swirls:
I would consider all of these beginner level designs.
Give them a Try!

This motif is called:  Cry Baby Meander
I have stitched it out on these
Orange Zipper Bags.

Sketch Book.....

More Inspiration from
the Sketch Book...

Drawing quilting designs on paper
reinforces them into your muscle memory...

When you can comfortably draw them out on paper,
then go to the machine and give them a try.
Some of us are visual learners...
Here are video tutorials to show you how these
designs are stitched out on a quilt surface:
