Moose Quilt & Hay Season...

This is our current living room quilt:

How much do I love this Moose !

He is hanging out on the quilt rack

in the living room...

The moose has a lot of purple in him

so I had to include purple in the color story...

It is hay season here in Western Oregon:

The Cowboy has my little red tractor

hooked up to the hay mower...

I am mowing the first hay field today...

This will be my view for the rest of the day.

It takes about 7 hours to get this field mowed.

I have my head phones on listening to lots

of great music and lots of ravens

to keep me company.

Catching Up...

I recently attended a Quilt Retreat

here in Western Oregon

We had a zipper bag class and these

were my class samples...

Check out the super cute birdie zipper pulls...

I pawed through the fabric cupboard

and found this donut fabric

and it was perfect for zipper bags...

From January through May I was stitching

Surgical Scrub Caps

I have made 150 + caps

My son works with a surgical group and
asked me to make him a cap, so I found some
Superman, Batman, Spiderman
fabrics in the cupboard.
I found a pattern online and away I stitched.
He wore them to work and they went viral.
Before I knew it I was making them for
guys and girls at the surgery. I found some
Wonder Woman fabric for the girls...FUN!
I know a lot more about
surgical caps than I did a few months ago.

While I was stitching surgical scrub caps,
we were in Calving Season
February, March, April & May

This is our very last pregnant girl...Vicky Junior.
She is a first time heifer and taking her time!
Vicky....let that baby out !

Most of our calves are born black now

as we use Black Angus Bulls.

Check out Baby Sister with her new calf...

Can you say Milk Mouth ?

Rodeo Quilt.....Progress

I started the design work on the Rodeo panel

in February and I have been pecking away at it

on and off the last few months...

These paper pieced star patterns caught my eye

for a border treatment, but the 6 inch is too

small and the 12 inch is too big...

I enlarged the 6 inch by 150%

and it finishes to a 9 inch block...just right.

It takes 4 sections to make one star block...

Here is the back side of the star block...

Star block ready to trim down to 9 1/2 inches...

It takes most of a day to finish a star block

from start to finish...

20 Star Blocks up on the design wall.

Now I have to figure out how to make the

red and white checker board inner border fit...

The last time I posted it was February

and winter here in Western Oregon...

As you can see through the Thread Shed window,

it is now Spring with lots of green grass

for the cattle to eat.

The last 3 months we have been calving and

are nearly done with calving season.

The cattle have been vaccinated and

it is now breeding season and the bulls

are in with the cows.

We mowed our first hay field yesterday.

I have been stitching most every day,

in between ranch work,

just not posting to this blog as much.

I will share more images soon.

Swoon Quilt.....DONE !

I began working on this quilt last April...

Today I stitched the binding in place

and put it right on our bed !

It will feel wonderful to sleep under

this quilt tonight...

It measures 92 x 92 inches

and fits nicely on our queen size bed...

The name of the quilt pattern is....Swoon

Close-Up View of machine quilting...

I worked on it once a month with my

local quilt group...

We all finished our own quilts together.

It's always a great feeling of completion

to sleep under a handmade quilt.

Yes, I have already started the next one !

Black Eyed Susan Quilt...

This is my Wednesday Quilt Project

Black Eyed Susan

I meet up with my local quilt group

every Wednesday and this is my newest project...

I am working on a design board

so I can see my block vertically while

I am piecing it...

Black Eyed Suzies have always been

a favorite of mine...

These flowers are quite large...

16 flower blocks makes a lap quilt

I am having great FUN !

Rodeo Dreams...

Rodeo Dreams.....Quilt Panel

This was gifted to me last year...

It's time to put it up on the design wall

and see what shakes out...

I made some strip units in red and white

and sub-cut them and made a checker board...

I placed them around the edge as a possible

border treatment...

I paper pieced a few star blocks...

I like the denim fabric behind the stars...

This is what I have so far.

I plan to make a few cattle brand blocks,

including our brand...

This is the view this morning out our window...

the elk are sharing the pasture with our cows.

Baby calves are due in March.

More to Come !
