Haying Season.....Continues

After a very wet June,  we are finally

making hay here in Western Oregon

I am not in front of a sewing machine...

I am behind the wheel of a

John Deere Tractor.

This green bad boy is my best friend today !

From the back view,  you can see

the hay mower attached...

Uncut grass on the right and

mowed grass on the left.

This mowed grass will dry for 2 days,

then it is time to rake it...

This field takes about 8 hours to knock down...

On the left side, in the distance,

you can see the cattle

across the fence from this hay field...

They are so beautiful to watch

while I mow...

Straight ahead you can see I have mowed

a V in the field...

that means I am in the center and only

have about an hour of mowing left to do.

Beyond this second hay field

is the first hay field, full of round bales.

Finally, we are getting something done !

Tassels...

In May I started playing around on my

beading table...

This is what happened:

Tassel Necklaces

I ordered the recycled sari ribbon from Etsy...

Everything else came from my bead drawers...

These are great FUN to create !

These photos are actually backwards...

The necklaces came last.

First came the individual tassels:

I made this brown tassel with waxed cording,

then found a purse in my closet that

worked with the tassel.

This is actually the very first tassel I created:

My inspiration was the big blue bead

on top of the tassel...

it motivated me to create something around it.

Now you know my tassel history...

These are a great way to use up orphan beads

left over from previous projects.

You Tube has lots of tassel tutorials.

Sellers on Etsy have lots of these to sell you.

Improv Technique 8......Design Wall

These are some blocks I created back in April

Improv Style

This is what they looked like the last

time you saw them...

They are basically a log cabin style block

with only 3 sides instead of 4...

You just keep adding wonky strips

on 3 sides...

They remind me of arches...

I got them back out last week

and put them up on the design wall:

They are in no particular order...

I just put them up on the wall to see

what I had to work with...

and also to see how big of a quilt top

they would create...

I think I have enough for a lap quilt...

there are more blocks on the table.

I will begin moving them and tweeking

them around and see what happens.

I could use a new lap quilt so...

I am motivated!

Improv.....Quilt Top

I spent March, April and May

creating lots of FUN improv blocks...

All of the fabrics are hand dyes I found at the bottom

of the scrap bin:

3 1/2 inch blocks

4 inch random strip blocks

4 inch floating triangle blocks

Wonky flying geese blocks

4 inch criss cross blocks

There were lots of small bits of hand dyes

at the bottom of the scrap bin,

so I pieced them together into long strips...

Then I inserted the pieced strips into

random strip units

It was great FUN putting all of the

improv blocks together...

I added lots of non-pieced solid strips

to quiet down the composition...

Improv piecing gets busy very quickly...

the solid strips give the eye a place to rest.

The bright borders help to lighten up

a somewhat dark composition...

At this point it measures approximately

48 inches square...

there are more improv blocks on the work table.

It may be awhile before I can get back to this...

Hay Season has begun here in Western Oregon:

Mowing.....Raking.....Baling

This hay is our winter feed supply for the cattle...

I won't hear the sweet hum of my sewing machine...

I will be behind the wheel of this little beauty...

Happy Summer!
