Whole Cloth....Border Quilting

I am nearly done with the quilting on

my little whole cloth quilt...

I have decided to stitch

triple lines in the border area...

I want the lines to be super straight so...

I will stitch the lines using ruler work...

I put a ruler foot on my Bernina...

I am using a little arc ruler...

The ruler got the job done in short order!

I dipped the mini quilt in water to

remove the blue pen markings:

I set it out in the sunshine to dry...

It needs a binding, hanging sleeve and label.

16 inches square

Ralph continues to enjoy his new comfort quilt...

Wherever I lay it down on the floor,

Ralph goes right over and takes a nap on it...

I think Ralph appreciates every stitch

that went into it!

I had a positive experience creating my

very first whole cloth quilt,

so I have started designing a larger whole cloth.

More to Come...

Spring Round Up......Yearling Cattle

It is 6am and the Cowboy wakes me up

with a cup of steaming hot coffee...

3 generations of Kessi's will be

working yearling cattle today...

The little yellow building in the photo below

Our youngest son is here to help...

He will be taking over for me today

so I will have more time to keep the

camera in my hands.

Every Spring we round up the yearling cattle here @ home and get them ready to go out on summer pasture.  They get fly tags in their ears to keep the flies off their face,
they are vaccinated and wormed.

Our son was a big help, so I was only needed to fill tagging pliers and keep the syringes full of vaccine.  That gave me some time to capture video of working cattle.

Whole Cloth....Machine Quilting

The Design Work on paper is complete...

This is all 3 layers of the whole cloth design...

Layer 1.....Basic Design Lines

Layer 2....Feather Motifs

Layer 3......Fill Work

Now I am ready to

transfer the design to fabric:

I am using a light box...

blue pen to trace the design onto fabric.

The basic design lines are all I need to trace...

Now to baste the quilt sandwich and

get it under the needle.

The basic design lines are quilted...

Now I am ready to

free motion the feather motifs....

I am moving right along with the

feather work....

I know you will be asking what these are?

I found this set at the thrift store

a few months ago...

they are wonderful for free motion work!

They really grab the fabric with very

little pressure from my hands.

The feather quilting is done...

Now it is time to begin the fill work...

The fill work compresses the background down

and

makes the feathers pop even more....yummy!

Lots of micro stitching in the fill work....

The fill work is complete...

all I have left to do is the border areas.

Ralph and I are ready to call it a day...

it is 7pm and we want our dinner.

By the way...

Good night from Ralph and I...

We are working yearling cattle today

so I won't be sewing.

I will post images of the complete

whole cloth quilt soon.

This is my first attempt @ whole cloth and

I am liking it a lot.
