I started this Bear Quilt top
I have been stitching on it
in between trips over to the
calving grounds to check for new calves...
Our mornings begin with loading up
hay and driving it over and feeding
it to the mama cows and their calves...
We have 3 orphaned calves this year
so I feed them bottles morning and night...
We check for newborn calves
several times a day,
and tag and vaccinate all new calves...
On the not so busy days...
I get to spend time in the Thread Shed stitching.
Today I put the final border on this Bear Quilt top.
After the cattle are fed each day,
the Cowboy walks through the herd
and checks for new calves, as well
as a health check on all of the older calves.
We check to be sure the mamas are making
plenty of milk for the babies...
We look the calves over to be sure
they are healthy and growing...
Within days of their birth,
the newborn calves are eating alfalfa
right along side their mamas.
Next month we will be branding calves,
turning the bulls in with the cows for breeding
and beginning hay season.
Not sure how much stitching time I will
have once all that starts,
but a few minutes here and there
adds up to a finished quilt.

It turned out amazing, so pretty.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing the Mama cows & calves.

Thanks so much Marilyn! This one took awhile, but it was worth it. Hope to get it hung in our living room by the summer.

yesI like the smaller bear paw blocks for the bottom of your quilt. I find the patchwork blocks you have used to be very interesting and so appropriate for the bear.
ReplyDeleteThank You Theresa. Glad I went with the smaller blocks. A little more work but well worth it.
