Flowers & Spider Webs...

Saying Good Bye to Summer...

It is time to clean out the flower beds...

Dinner Plate Dahlias...

The rain is back and everything is getting soggy !

We have two seasons here in Western Oregon...

Wet and Dry

While feeding cows this morning,

spider webs caught my eye...

They show up so well when they

are back lit as the sun rises...

The spiders have been busy...

These are GIANT webs...

There are giant spiders in the center

of the webs...

Good Bye Summer...

Hello Autumn

Thread Shed Flowers...

Lilies growing just outside the Thread Shed

They greet me when I walk in the door...

My brother in law made this sign for the door...

Where the Girls Are...

The Thread Shed

Lots of creativity goes on inside

this little building...

My aunt gave me the chicken bell and she

likes to ring it when she comes to visit...

My mother in law gave me the

sunflower barn quilt...

Hydrangeas growing out front...

The blooms start out green, turn pink

then purple...

The red hen house sits just to the right

of the Thread Shed...

The rooster and the hens like to

hang out in front of the Thread Shed...

The Cowboy built this for me 25 years ago

and it still serves me well and is

my happy place !

Hollyhock Quilt...

Hollyhocks

Old Fashioned Hollyhocks

have always been a favorite of mine...

They are in full bloom...

If you look closely in the very center

you can see a 5 point star...

You can plant the seeds in the ground

spring, summer or fall

and they will sprout right up and begin to grow.

They winter over really well.

The next summer they will bloom beautifully.

They are drought tolerant and don't need water.

They are prolific and re-seed themselves.

Not only beautiful, but easy to grow.

Midnight in the Garden

This is my Hollyhock quilt from 2010

More Snowflakes...

In between making hay this summer,

I have been paper piecing more

snowflake blocks...

These snowflake blocks are a bit advanced

so you need some foundation paper piecing

experience to get them done...

I love the precision of paper piecing

so really enjoy creating these snowflakes...

I have completed 15 snowflake blocks so far...

not sure how many I will need.

Nothing is sewn into place just yet,

I am auditioning possible border treatments.

This will be an ongoing project for

the rest of the summer months ahead...

We put up new fencing around the flower bed

in front of the house...

to keep our chickens from scratching it all up !

That is a super giant lime green hosta

by the whiskey barrels...

I do love me some lime green !

are really putting on a show right now...

Hundreds of blooms on just one plant !

If you look close...

you can see the bumble bees just love them !

This image is from a month ago...

lots more flower blooms out there now

and a couple of tomato plants

with tomatoes on the vines.

Flower Power...

I just can't clean out the flower beds yet...

By Now...I normally have the flowers

all cleaned out,

mulched and put to bed for the winter...

But, take a look for yourself:

The dahlias are really putting on a show !

They are responding to all of this gorgeous

and sunny autumn weather we are having

here in Western Oregon...

I just can't clean out the flower beds just yet...

There are even a few zinnias blooming...

I will miss them when they are gone...

These images will have to last all winter...

The bumble bees appreciate the flowers too !

As long as this beautiful weather sticks around,

so will the flowers!
