Focus on Fusing.......Fused Fabric

I am enrolled in Melody Johnson's

My fabrics have been dyed...

The hand dyes are all fused...

You can see the fusible paper

on the back side of the fabrics.

I spent the day trimming off all of the un-fused

edges on the hand dyed fat quarters.

I need to be sure that the fusing goes all the way

to the edges of the fabric.

Lots of edge trimmings.

Rather than work with an entire fat quarter

of fused fabric,

I am cutting off 3 inch strips to work with.

It took most of the day to get the 50 fat quarters

trimmed and ready to work with.

The fabrics are prepped...

I am ready to begin creating!

I will post my homework

as I complete it each week.

Every Friday Melody posts a

new homework assignment.

Melody is offering this as a FREE online class!

Focus on Fusing.......Class Homework

I am enrolled in Melody Johnson's

http://focusonfusing.blogspot.com/

This week I sorted through my hand dyes:

These are a few that might work for this class.

We won't be using wild hand dyes at first...

We will use calmer hand dyes like these:

I do notice that the majority of my hand dyes

read as medium values.......hmmm.

I need each color to have values from very light

to very dark......like this run of pink hand dyes.

I spent Tuesday dyeing primary and secondary

colors on the color wheel......48 fat quarters.

Today I washed and dried them.

Now I am ready to fuse.....ALL of them!

Melody prefers

Pellon Wonder-Under 805  fusible web

This press will make short work of all that fusing!

This press has 7 times the pressing surface

of a regular iron.........wish me luck!

I will post my homework

as I complete it each week.

Every Friday Melody posts a

new homework assignment.

Machine Quilting.....Whole Cloth

I have been stitching on this 2 yard

whole cloth for.....4 days!

I was just sure I could stitch this out in a day...

No Marking...

just free motion doodling

all over a 2 yard quilt sandwich.

How long could that take?

I am machine quilting on my

Bernina 153QE

It takes a long time when Ralph helps you!

When he cuddled up on the back of the quilt...

I could quilt on the front fairly well without

too much cat drag.

 Back of Quilt Sandwich:

I should have finished this in one day,

with Ralph the Machine Quilting Cat...

it took 4 days!

This 2 yard quilt sandwich will be cut up and

pieced into a large carry bag.

I will post images when it is done.

Good night from Ralph and me ~

Color.......More is More!

Here is your color blast for the day

Each morning I water the flowers,

they change so much from the day before...

The flowers give me lots of inspiration

for choosing colors for my quilts...

This is the view out the back door...

This flower bed is full of State Fair Zinnias...

State Fair Zinnias get your attention:

No need to enhance these images...

these Zinnias are just this colorful!

Orange State Fair Zinnia

so I am a bit obsessed with them right now.

Hollyhocks......always an attention getter!

Orange Cone Flowers

Now that is juicy orange!

Red Rudbeckia

Deep Pink Dahlia

Red Dahlia

All of these flowers are in the warm color family.

Lots of in-your-face color!

I hope this gives you lots of color inspiration

for your future quilting projects.
