Calving & Bear Quilt...

Calving season has begun here at

The Kessi Ranch

This is our first baby of the year 2025...

Calf Number 1   Born March 1, 2025

She was a bit early so she is tiny and.....wild !

She runs laps around the barn like a race horse !

Out in the Thread Shed

I am making some progress

on the Bear panel quilt:

I am stitching together Bear Paw Blocks...

I need one more border treatment

for the bottom of the Bear panel...

I'll put these up on the design wall

and see if they work...

Bear Paw border...

Mountains at the top,

Trees on the sides,

Bear Paws on the bottom...

Like a puzzle, I have to find a way to make

all of this fit together.

More to Come !

Mod TV Quilt...Progress

This has been my Wednesday project

the last few weeks...

Mod TV Quilt

I work on it each Wednesday when I meet

up with my local quilt group...

This week I fused all of the TV screens

in place...

The TVs really came alive

when the screens were added...

I am enjoying playing with all of this COLOR

during these dreary winter months...

16 TV screens are in place...

I put them up on the design wall in no

special order...

I moved them around a bit and the

lights and darks are more balanced here...

I used monofilament thread for the

invisible applique' around the screens...

More to come next Wednesday !

Bear Quilt...Progress

I am making some progress on

the Bear panel quilt top...

I finished up the tree blocks...

I have decided to try putting together some

mountain blocks for the top border treatment...

I changed up the block pattern so it

measures 12 x 9 inches

I like the way it is coming together,

so I made a few more blocks...

I am thinking bear paw blocks for the

bottom border treatment...

More to come !

Bear Panel Quilt Top...

I am still pecking away at my pile

of quilt panels...

Grizzly Bear

The Cowboy just installed a new light

above the design wall.

It has made a huge difference when I am

auditioning fabrics for my quilts,,,

I pawed through the fabric cupboards

and came up with these border fabrics...

I have these pulled for the tree fabrics...

This tree block pattern will work

with a few modifications...

I will make the bias squares / HST

with the 8 at a time method...

The revolving cutting mat works great

for cutting them apart after stitching....

The Bloc-Loc Ruler

works great for trimming them to size...

The groove on the underside of the ruler

catches on the seam and holds the block

in place during the trimming process...

All of the bias squares have been trimmed

and are ready to stitch into trees...

I added an extra row of squares

at the bottom of the tree blocks

to make them longer and measure

8 x 10 inches

The first few trees are up on the design wall...

I am planning mountain blocks for the

top border...

More To Come !

Thread Shed Curtains...

These are the curtains in the Thread Shed:

I hung them up in 2000

when the Cowboy built the Thread Shed...

They are quilt tops from the 20's and 30's

that were never made into quilts...

They have dry rot and are falling apart...

They are torn in places and need to be replaced.

Here are a couple of quilt tops

from the 30's that I have had for years:

They are not suitable to be quilted...

I do enjoy looking at them and will

appreciate seeing them every day

instead of storing them out of sight

in the cupboard...

I will cut off the damaged parts and

hem them to fit the window...

The old curtains have been removed...

This is my view when I am at the sewing machine.

The early morning light from the East

comes through this window...

The new curtains are in place

and they look lovely in the morning light...

I have a liner behind them to protect

them from the sunshine...

They brighten up the room

and I can enjoy them when I spend time

in the Thread Shed.
