Soy Wax Class...

Saturday I spent the day leading a class in

Soy Wax Batik

Soy Wax Tools...

Heating up the Soy Wax

before the students arrived...

After a quick demo showing the students

how to use the tools...

the students were getting down....with the wax!

The Tjanting tool was popular throughout the day...

After waxing....it was time to choose paint:

Pebeo Setacolor Textile Paints

1 part paint to 3 or 4 parts water...

You can see the wax resists the paint...

Found Objects from around the house...

Soy Wax on Fabric......Before Painting

Soy Wax on Fabric.......After Painting

The students will air dry their fabrics at home...

Then heat-set the textile paint the next day...

Soy Wax Batik Surface Design Technique.....FUN!

Soy Wax Batik.....Part 3

The Soy Wax has been applied to the fabric...

Textile Paint has been applied to the fabric...

Now I am heat setting the paint...

Here are a few of my favorite pieces:

Triangles

Coffee Filter Circles

Script Writing with the Tjanting Tool

Cookie Cutter Hands

Vegetable Chopper Lines

Sponge Ovals

Script Writing

Sponge Squares

Squares with a Tjanting Tool

Ovals from a wire basket bottom

Movie Reels and Potato Masher Circles

Now that the textile paints have been fixed with heat...

These can all go in a hot wash to get out the

last of the soy wax.

Textile Paints are a great alternative when

dyeing the fabric isn't convenient.
