My Quilting Sketch Book......Feathers with a Tail

From My Quilters Sketch Book

Feather.....with a tail

This is how I chalk out the feather spine

Feather with a tail.....hollow spine

Hollow Spine.....filled with hair bands

Here is a quick tutorial:

Feather with a tail....

with a Hollow Spine

Chalk it out on your fabric

Begin by adding plumes to the inside

of the tail....keep them tight

continue to add plumes to the

right side of the hollow spine...

When all of the plumes have been

added to the right side...

over-stitch back down the left side of the spine

Begin adding plumes to the

left side of the hollow spine...

continue adding plumes to the left side

stretch out the plumes to fill up

the given space

Completed Feather with a Tail

Here's another feather with a tail:

This one has piggy back feathers

Humming Birds:

also known as.....Bumble Birds

have claimed our flower beds as their own!

These images were taken at the end of the day,

mostly taken into the setting sun,

so not the best....but enjoy them.

This little fellow is.....Buzz LightYear

He fends off any other bumble birds...

He spends more time chasing off other birds...

than he does collecting nectar...

He moves around so swiftly...

I barely get a chance to take the photo...

He is our evening entertainment...

Sometimes he comes by and buzzes my head...

he doesn't want me in his flower bed either!

Sketch Book Designs...

A few more designs from

My Quilting Sketch Book...

I don't spend much time in the

thread shed during the summer...

Most of my time is out of doors...

Drawing in my sketch book keeps

me tuned up for free motion quilting...

Each time I draw out the designs,

it helps my muscle memory...

When I get back to the thread shed

this fall...

I will be all warmed up and ready to

get a quilt under the needle!

This is where I do most of my drawing in the

summer months...

Gunnr and I checking on the sunflower patch...

Hard to believe these were just seedlings

a few short weeks ago...

Star Lilies...

Star Lilies have the sweetest aroma...

This image must become a quilted piece some day!
