Vintage Christmas Quilt...

This is my Wednesday project

when I meet with my local

quilting tribe...

Vintage Christmas

It took several days to cut out all of the pieces:

How much do I love these pick up trucks !

This pattern was nicely written

and so easy to follow...

All 5 pick up trucks have been completed...

Now it is time to piece the big trees:

Big and smaller trees...

All of the units have been pieced together...

It is time to cut the sashing strips,

but that is for next Wednesday.

Yes, I am desperately in need of a new design wall.

The kitty cat shredded this one....eek!

Here is your Super Cuteness for the day:

Baby Tree Swallow

We put a bird house on the patio and

now there are baby birds in it....FUN!

One of the babies jumped out and up

on top of the bird house...

Drunkards Path Quilt Blocks...

More than 15 years ago

I pieced a pile of Drunkards Path blocks

I pulled out my batik fabrics and had FUN

curved piecing...

I have to say, I have never been fond

of Drunkards Path quilts...

The layout and design of the

Drunkards Path puts me on edge...

so the blocks have been sitting in a drawer.

While I was searching for something else

in the Thread Shed I found the blocks...

I started playing around with them...

The full circle makes me happy !

Circles have always made me happy...

I like the way the circle really

jumps out at you...

So BOLD !

So I made a pile of circle blocks...

16 inch Blocks

Up on the Design Wall...

not sewn together just yet.

First row stitched together...

Two rows together...

All 16 blocks stitched together...

15 Years and the Quilt Blocks

are finally stitched into a quilt top...

How FUN is this !

I am not sure about a border treatment?

I am liking the yellow fabric...

We are all done branding calves and getting

the cow and calf pairs out onto

summer pasture with the bulls.

I am working in the flower beds now

battling the weeds, mulching, fertilizing

and watching the flower seeds sprout.

The Cowboy is busy getting the hay equipment

out of storage and ready to rock 'n roll

in the hay fields very soon!

Baby Quilt...

Ponderosa Charm Squares

Back in March I pulled out these charm squares

and stitched together a Moda Love Star Quilt

top for our neighbor who is expecting her

first baby...

It's time to get it under the needle...

I am stitching on my HQ Sweet Sixteen

Sit-Down Long Arm today...

Our neighbor and her horses

are all expecting babies very soon...

A horsey quilt for a horsey girl !

I have made several of these Moda Love Quilts

and they are so much fun and a great way

to utilize precut squares of all sizes...

Beautiful horse fabric for the back side.

Time to get the binding and label on

and get this to the new mama.

Working Cattle.....Spring 2024

It is Spring here in Western Oregon...

time to get the cattle worked

Today we are working the heifers...

heifers are the females who have just had

their very first calf.

The cow and calf pairs are herded into the corral

then sorted into different pens.

Mamas in one pen, calves in the other.

They don't like to be separated,

so they start bawling and it gets loud !

We have a tiny chute just for the calves...

it keeps them secure and safe so we can

get them worked quickly and back with their

mamas in just a few minutes.

This is our work table, the tailgate of the pick up.

I keep it organized so we can work efficiently

and get the cattle back out into

the pasture quickly.

Fly Tags...

These are ear tags that help keep the

flies off the cattle.

Cattle Vaccines...

These medications help prevent lots of

different cattle diseases as well pneumonia.

The calves are all done so it is time

to run the heifers through the chute...

We try and choose a cool, overcast day

to work the cattle...

This is Eleanor...2 year old heifer

I was there the day she was born.

Now she has her own baby and she is

such a great mama.

The Cowboy is putting fly tags on Elsa...

Yes, Elsa is the Frozen Calf.

She is now a year old and a very big girl !

Once the cattle have been worked,

we put them out to summer pasture

with the bulls to be bred.

We have been working cattle for several days now

and we have one more group of cows to work

then we can concentrate on getting

the hay equipment ready.

We will be making hay before we know it.
