Hello Spring....Progress

This is my Wednesday project

Happy Spring Quilt

I have all 8 flower blocks completed

and I am piecing the lady bug blocks...

The table is set for.....FUN

Today I finished up the last 3 lady bugs

a total of 14 lady bug blocks

they measure 10 x 10 inches

The flowers measure 10 x 20 inches

This quilt makes me smile !

I have begun to orient the blocks

and cut the sashing strips...

I will finish this up in November.

We are loving the new Feeder Wagon...

It holds 5,000 lbs of hay...

The cows are loving it too !

This is our beautiful, golden Nellybelle

She is the daughter of Golden Girl

Nellybelle is bred and will have her first

calf next Spring.

I caught Scarlet licking her lips...

The girls are all gathered round the

Feeder Wagon...

Weaning Calves....

It must be October...

we are weaning calves

It took a few days to round up

all of the cow and calf pairs,

sort them out and load up the calves

in livestock trailers and haul

them to the weaning barn...

The calves are 6 to 8 months of age...

The calves are in the barn for

the next 2 weeks...

Most of the mama cows are a few miles

away at different locations,  but there

are a few that live in the pasture behind

the weaning barn, so they come up to the

barn and bawl at their calves...

Inside the weaning barn, the Cowboy

has set up bale feeders, a watering trough,

protein lick tubs and salt blocks

and a whole lot of wheat straw bedding

to keep the calves comfortable.

The mama cows are not very happy

with this arrangement...

Every morning when we come to

feed the calves and bed the barn with straw,

we get the stare down from the mama cows...

The mama cows are expecting babies in February

so they need a break before their

new calves are born.

October also brings gourds...

lots of tiny, cute ones !

Room with a View...

This is the Thread Shed...

where I do most of my stitching

It is located in our yard by the Hen House...

The Cowboy built it for me in 2000...

hard to believe I have been stitching

in here for 26 years !

It is my Happy Place...

The chickens are always pecking around

nearby to keep me company...

The building is 16 x 24 feet

It houses my long arm on the left,

big board ironing board on the right,

Large work table in center of room,

Media cabinet in the back left corner

My sewing machine is by the big window...

I can see so much out this window

While I sew I can see cattle in the corral

and goats in the red barn...

From the cutting table I can see across the river...

I watch the cows eat their hay bales...

They are gathered around the bale feeder

up on the bench above the river...

I look to see if the hay feeder is empty

and if we need to fill it up...

I love being able to watch our girls

while I sew...

I love a room with a view...

Mowing the 2nd Hay Field...

This is a big hay field so...

we are cutting half the field today

The Cowboy is mowing it in half,

he can drive in a straight line...

me, not so much !

The Cowboy is making some final

adjustments to the mower...

I am off and running:

This is what the field looks like

after I have mowed for a few hours...

After 6 or 7 hours I am getting

closer to the middle of the field...

Tractors don't turn tight corners,

so when I get to a corner I cut straight across,

leaving a narrow strip of grass.

Then I go back and mow out the corners.

This is Polly with her new calf Pollyanna

Pollyanna will make a beautiful

replacement heifer next year.

The John Deere has excellent A/C

so I stay nice and comfortable while  mowing.

Project Bag...

Project Bags for Quilters

I love this pattern !

I have made 10 of these bags and

plan to make lots more...

This is the back of the bag.

There is foam in between the fabric

and it is quilted in a grid pattern...

The quilting shows up better on the

green lining fabric...

I have the vinyl cut for the front of the bag...

I have the zipper pieces all ready to stitch...

Just need to stitch the

front of the bag together...

Here it is bound with the handle attached.

Quilters Project Bag

20 x 20 inches

I have made several for myself and

a few more for my friends and family.

Here is some cuteness for you:

This Baby Bull just melts my heart...

He is the grandson to my very favorite cow,

Golden Girl

No more sitting in front of my sewing machine...

I am saddled up to the John Deere

mowing more hay fields.
