Screens are Drying...

I decided to move the wet screens out doors today...

This is day 2....and they still have areas of wet dye

A few hours in the sunshine helped to dry them

This screen had the cardboard sleeves from a Starbucks Coffee

This screen had a rubber pad that you put under a carpet
to prevent it from slipping

Bubble Wrap and Corrugated Card Board

Round Rubber Disks to prevent slipping in the tub
Rubber Bands and bubble wrap

Wire Mesh Paper Plate Holder
and Starbucks Coffee Cup Sleeves

Round plastic caps off of all sorts of bottles and containers

Wire Mesh that you put over rain gutters to keep leaves out

Plastic Wrap scrunched up and left to dry all wrinkled

Bathtub non slip rings, metal hooks, paper clips, pop tops from cans

Ooops...

I found a few more items I wanted to try out...

I mixed up another quart of thickened paste and made
5 more screens........these are addicting!

Wire Mesh......Back of Screen

Wire Mesh......Front of Screen.....Not dry yet.

Several colors of thickened dye....drawn out in lines

Disposable Gloves......Back Side of Screen

Disposable Gloves.....Front Side of Screen.....Not dry Yet.

There will be a lot more wrinkles as this dries out.

Plastic Mesh Grid......Back of Screen

Plastic Mesh Grid......Front Side.....Not Dry Yet.

Time to pack up the screens
and round up the rest of the supplies
for the Screen Printing Play Day on Wednesday...

More to Come!

Screen Printing.....Deconstructed

I haven't had the camera in my hands much this week.

My hands have been full of fabric dyes...

Today I mixed up thickened dye paste

Sodium Alginate/Powdered Seaweed
thickens the dye powders

Condiment Containers
full of thickened dye paste

These make it easy to squirt the dye onto the screens

I wasn't able to take too many process images today because my hands were full of dye and I didn't want it all over the camera.....eek!

After the thickened dye paste is applied to the screen...

You can place all sorts of textured items into the paste
and allow them to dry overnight.

Tomorrow I will remove the objects from the screens...

Next week I will take the screens to a
Screen Printing Play Day

I will take the camera along too so you can see
the results of the Deconstructed Screens.

I am also preparing for a Fabric Dyeing Workshop
here at Kessi Farms next weekend...

12 students are joining me in the back yard for a day
of creating hand dyed fabric....
We have room for a few more students if you are interested!
Inquire at: kessi@pioneer.net

My hands have been busy in the flower beds too...

The iris are in full bloom...

The Rhodies are blooming too.

Inspiration.....from the Flower Bed

Not much happening in the Thread Shed
since the flower beds started
grabbing my attention.

Much of the inspiration for my quilts
comes from life here on the farm...

This week the flower bed filled up with Iris blooms...

They are giving the camera a good work out!

I got in really close to take a photo...

and out popped this little guy from inside the Iris...

He is letting me know that he was here first...

He's not backing down or flying away...

He is coming closer to get a better look at me...

He is not impressed with me at all...

He returns to the inside of the flower...

This gives me all the inspiration I need to make
"The Iris and the Fly"
quilt some day.

Keep your camera at the ready....you never know when inspiration will strike!

As always, I am happy to share my photography.
Please feel free to use these images in your personal art work.
