I haven't shared a peek into my Sketch Book
of Quilt Designs lately...
Here are a few new designs I am working on.
I call these Over Under Designs:
The quilting designs travel over and under one anther...
I begin by drawing half circles and arc shapes,
then add vines and feathers that travel over and under them.
The last thing I do is add the textured background designs.
The arc shapes are drawn first...
The feathers go under and over the arcs...
The checker board background filler is drawn last.
Yes, these take a long time to sketch out,
but they are well worth it.
You will need to completely draw out your design on paper,
then chalk it out on your quilt top,
then stitch it out.
I drew a spiral line rather than an arc for this one...
It has become a favorite of mine.
Using the same background filler can be boring to stitch out...
I prefer mixing in lots of different background designs.
You need a large area of negative space on your quilt top
to accommodate this kind of design...
or a whole cloth style quilt.
These are addicting to sketch out...
I have been working on these for 4 months
and I can't stop!
In June I shared posts on
The Pixeladies, who host these classes, are offering
them again in October and November 2015.
