Journal Cover.....Class Samples
Instructor: Virginia Gregory
Instructor: Nancy Bryant
Will be our Steam Press Queen
Students stitching up their journal covers...
After stitching.....comes the pressing
Here is a demo of the construction:
Stiff interfacing has been pressed
onto the wrong side of the journal cover
A strip of paper backed fusible web has been ironed
to the wrong side of the lining of the journal cover.
A slit has been cut into the fusible web.
The inside flaps have been layered on top
of the right side of the lining...
raw edges together
The journal cover has been layered on top
of the flaps and lining.
All of the layers are pinned together.
A seam is sewn through all layers all the way around
the edge of the interfacing
The seam is trimmed to 1/4 inch
Reach through the slit and turn the cover right side out
After turning, be sure to push out all of the corner points
Turn the flaps toward the inside of the cover
Remove the fusible paper from the opening
Carefully iron the fusible opening...
the slit nearly disappears.
It is not visible on the inside of the journal cover
after the book has been inserted.
Place the journal under the flaps
This process only takes a few minutes...
so the students made another one!
This is our newest student, Juliana

It's always a treat to see the fun projects you've developed for this group. What a blessing to given them Permission to Play rather than a finished item. The creativity is a precious gift.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great project for those wanting to learn to sew, as well as experienced quilters. These Journal Covers also make great gifts. Thank you for the tutorial. Looks like this project would be good for a #KidFriendlyProject. Total #CreativeGoodness
