Haying Season.....Continues

After a very wet June,  we are finally

making hay here in Western Oregon

I am not in front of a sewing machine...

I am behind the wheel of a

John Deere Tractor.

This green bad boy is my best friend today !

From the back view,  you can see

the hay mower attached...

Uncut grass on the right and

mowed grass on the left.

This mowed grass will dry for 2 days,

then it is time to rake it...

This field takes about 8 hours to knock down...

On the left side, in the distance,

you can see the cattle

across the fence from this hay field...

They are so beautiful to watch

while I mow...

Straight ahead you can see I have mowed

a V in the field...

that means I am in the center and only

have about an hour of mowing left to do.

Beyond this second hay field

is the first hay field, full of round bales.

Finally, we are getting something done !

    1. The white plastic that makes the bales look like marshmellows is used for silage, which we don't make. We dry the grass and bale it for hay. We used to make silage, and the cows really loved that stinky stuff!

  2. Ahhhhhh the good old days of being in the hay field! Only bad part was loading bales on conveyor and stacking in the hay loft! Must have been 200 degrees up there! And you had to wear long sleeves or you'd be scratched to high heaven! HA You do good work!!!!

    1. Oh Robbie...I have those same memories from about 20 years ago, 10,000 hay bales, noisy convey belts and hot, hot hay sheds to stack it all in. Thank goodness the Cowboy switched over to big round bales 20 years ago and saved our backs!

      Happy Summer to Ya,
