Boer Goats.....our weed eaters

Goat Barn

Early morning sunshine burns off the fog.

We have a small herd of boer goats:

Little Lotta and Little Louie

He looks just like his mama.

Lucy and Little Lexy

She looks just like her mama.

Lily and Mini Me

Yes, each mama has a baby that is her twin.

They spend most of the day

eating blackberry vines

along the river banks.

Now that it is calving season,

we spend most of our time across the river

at these two calving barns below:

We have 50 calves on the ground so far.

Several sets of twins.

We are enjoying tulips blooming in the yard.

Enjoy today's goat video:

  1. I love the barn picture. It would look wonderful on my living room wall - enlarged and framed of course. The goats are cute to watch. I meant to comment on your horse panel; it's going to be a beautiful finish!

  2. Hey LuAnn,
There was a local news story (NW Washington) about a young couple who bought 3 acres with the intent of becoming truck farmers. They got some goats to clear the land of solid blackberry bushes, fell in love and now have a little goat farm instead. :) Do the babies always look like their mothers?

    1. Those goats get into your heart that's for sure. No, the babies don't always look like their mamas.....it just happened for us.

  3. At first glance, I thought the first photo was a painting! You have a lovely, well kept farm. It's a pleasure to come for these virtual visits. And your goats! So cool that the babies look just like their mommas. Five minutes on your farm and I'm smiling. Thanks!

    1. Many thanks Carole for your very kind comments. Goats just have a way of making you smile and feel happy. I begin and end each day out in the goat barn.

  4. Your goats are so adorable!! What is with the cuts on the ears? Is that a way of identifying or branding the goats? 50 new babies on the ground so far - awesome!! May they continue to come, healthy and accepted by their mama's!!

    1. Yes, the previous owner of the goats used ear notching when the baby goats were born to identify them to their mothers. Our new baby goats born here do not have ear notches. There are just a few of them so no need to ear notch them. I know them all by name. We had a new set of twins this week and the mama likes them both. The cowboy had to pull the second twin as it was breech. Mama and both babies are doing well today and we hope to get them turned out into the pasture in a week or so. Many thanks for your always great comments!
