Barn Lot Quilt Series.....Progress

I have been making some progress

on the rust dyed quilts...

This is the 5th quilt top in the series...

These images are super rusty!

In the upper right corner of the quilt top

you can see rusted horse shoes:

The horse shoes were worn by

the Cowboy's Cow Pony, Dancer...

All 5 quilt tops now have borders:

I have some applique' work to do,

then they will be spray basted

and ready for machine quilting.

This was our sunrise this morning

just out the back door.

I have a January deadline on the rusted quilts.

Nothing gets things done like a deadline!

  1. Wow!! Does the rust change the feel of the fabric at all? One of these days, can you show us how you do it? Looks awesome!! We have horse shoes at the farm, but my horse has always gone barefoot.

    1. I have a rust dyeing tutorial on my blog from 2014. You can find it here: https://luannkessi.blogspot.com/2014/09/rust-dyeing.html

    2. The rusted fabric remains soft for the most part and resembles the stiffer feel of batiks because it has been washed and dried.
