The cowboy baled alfalfa hay...
I played with fabric...
I am using Melinda Bula's Zinnia pattern
My sister and I shared the pattern cutting...
I brought the press along to fuse the fabrics...
Let the games begin!
The pattern pieces are cut
and sorted by fabric color...
The pattern pieces are pinned to the fabrics
to help us stay organized...
The plastic overlay helps us place the pattern
pieces on the teflon sheet underneath...
Here is a peek under the plastic overlay...
We are putting down the base petals
of the Zinnia.
At this point, all of the base petals are in place...
Here is another peek under the plastic...
Time to begin adding the tiny shadow pieces...
We are using Steam A Seam 2...
The fused fabrics stick
where you put them.....nice.
Dark pink shadows have been added...
Cranberry red shadows have been added...
The center of the flower is taking shape...
Auditioning greens for the leaves...
We narrowed it down to these greens...
This is my sister's Zinnia
My Zinnia is on the left.
I will finish it when we return home.
At this point the flowers are fused.
We will lift them off the teflon
and audition background fabrics.
Then we can begin the quilting process.

Isn't it such fun to do? They look great! I took a one day class in Houston with Melinda and enjoyed it no end. I still haven't quilted the zinnia yet- I'm nervous about it. Because of the fusing, tearing out would be difficult so I have to get it right the first time. You are inspirng me to finish it. I do have it hung up in my studio and people ooh and aah over it.

ReplyDeleteYour hand dyed fabric is awesome, what a nice set to work with. I hope the flower is BIG, all the tiny pieces, but the shadows really accent each petal. Can't wait to see it all finished.
