Flowers for Auntie...

It is time to get this comfort quilt

under the needle...

This measures 72 inches square

so I am machine quilting it on my

Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen...

The quilting is complete and I am

squaring up the quilt...

I used a clam shell ruler to

quilt the center...

I kept the design simple so it would

not complete with this large floral fabric.

Swirls and plume quilting design

in the pink border...

Feather quilting in the white border...

I matched the thread colors so they

would not stand out and complete with these

gorgeous, large floral fabrics...

It is quilted and trimmed and ready

for a binding...

I used the leftover fabric from the back side

to make the binding strips...

The binding is finished...

Time to take it outdoors

for a photo shoot:

This is a comfort quilt that I created quickly

from my stash of leftover floral fabrics...

Day One......Piecing

Day Two......Machine Quilting

Day Three......Binding and Label

I am shipping this quilt out today

to comfort someone I love...

When you cannot be there to give

someone a big, warm hug...

make them a quilt to wrap up in

and feel loved.

  3. Another work of art, LuAnn! Do you use the ruler presser foot? If not, how do you make the "normal" one work?

    1. Hi Maggie,
Yes, I use the ruler foot on the Sweet Sixteen to make the clam shells. I also have a ruler foot for my Berninas that works with the ruler templates. It is FUN to change things up once in awhile and do some ruler work instead of free motion quilting.

  4. You did a beautiful job quilting. I had a Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen but never did very well with it. I ended up selling it. What kind of ruler foot do you use with your Bernina.

    1. Hi Jocelyn, Like all machines, there is a learning curve with the long arms. It took me awhile to get comfortable with my sweet sixteen. The Toga gauge was a game changer for me to get the perfect tension. Bernina makes a special Adjustable ruler foot #72 that works great for ruler quilting on a domestic machine. I am quite pleased with it.
      Hugs,
      LuAnn
