Fabulous Finish....Number 5

This improv piece has been sitting

around for almost 2 years...

It has waited long enough.

The top consists of Pick Up Stix blocks...

This is a piece I hand dyed and

         silk screened.

I sliced it up and created borders...

The quilt top is ready to be basted and

go under the needle...

This is a small quilt so I am doing the

machine quilting on my Bernina Artista 200...

I am using a walking foot for the

simple, wavy, line quilting...

The white thread does not compete with

the pick up stix blocks

and shows up nicely in the borders...

Time to get this trimmed

and stitch on the binding...

I pawed through the cupboard and found this

hand dyed green for the binding...

Love these clips when binding...

I am stitching the binding on by machine

and pin these clips an inch apart

so the binding does not slip...

It has taken me a few years to master

a machine binding:

The binding looks great on the top side...

and the back side...

Here is the big reveal...

Table runner.....Christmas Charm Pack

I am on a roll with the table runners...

this is made from a holiday charm pack:

All pieced and under the needle...

I am in the Thread Shed today

stitching on the Bernina Artisa 200...

Lots of big free motion swirls...

rather than let this charm pack sit around

until next holiday season,  I decided

to get it done now...

On point settings are a favorite...

I chose the gray dots for backing...

All done.....10 months early !

I captured this image this morning

while feeding the cattle:

Felix the Elk Calf is 9 months old

and loves to hang out with the old cow herd.

Update on Felix:

Felix stayed with the cow herd for 3 months. He was content and felt safe and enjoyed being fed hay each morning. One morning we showed up to feed and Felix was gone. From the elk tracks in the field, we could see that an elk herd moved through and he joined up with them. It was a great experience for us to see him up close each day, but we are happy that he is where he belongs.

Yo Yo.....Hand Piecing Project

How much FUN are these ?

I have been making Yo Yos

for the last year or so...

I started stitching them together:

In the evenings I enjoy hand stitching...

I also take these along on road trips.

In the evenings I need some extra lighting

and this works very nicely...

It hangs around my neck and really

lights things up !

I carry the yo yos with me in this tote bag:

It is hand painted canvas

that I stitched together

to make this sturdy tote...

For now, everything I need fits inside.

As the yo yo top gets bigger, I will need to

switch to a larger tote bag...

I will keep stitching in the evenings...

and we can watch it grow !

Fabulous Finish....Number 4

I dug deep to find this unfinished project...

These were orphan blocks from a

New York Beauty quilt from 2009

I put the orphan blocks into a table runner

and today they are going under the needle

for some machine quilting...

These blocks are all about the fabrics and design,

so I kept the quilting very simple

so it would not compete...

These are 6 inch blocks that were leftover from

They are foundation paper pieced...

which is the only way to roll with the

NYB pattern

Just love those pointy points !

Now that it is finished,

it will brighten up the kitchen table...

I now have 4 Fabulous Finishes

and I will dig around for the next one soon !
