We are across the river this morning
feeding the replacement heifers...
On the far right...
you can see our red barn at home.
This is a small herd of heifers.
We kept them for replacement cows...
You can see Golden Girl
through the bale feeder.
She had her first calf last may...
In the front row are 3 little heifer's calves...
they weren't born until late Spring,
so they are still at their mother's side
and won't be weaned until the first of the year.
The Cowboy is unlocking the gate
to let them in the barn to eat some hay...
This is the Cowboy...
nothing gets done on this place without him.
He gets things done!

I love your videos!!! And the weather is beautiful!! We're having cloudy/gray day here in Michigan but the 'white stuff' is due to fall starting late tonight! At least it will look brighter with the snow! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGolden Girl is so pretty!! I love how the cows take care of their babies! Cowboy must have to keep really good breeding records so you don't end up with inbred calves.
ReplyDeleteWhen you are with your cattle day in and day out you get to know them very well. You can look at a heifer and know what bull she is out of. We purchase yearling angus heifer bulls every couple of years to breed our new heifers. They throw small calves, which makes an easy delivery for our young mothers. We only keep our herd bulls for 3 or 4 years, they get too large when they get older. Keeping new blood in the bull pen helps to prevent inbreeding.
