Whole Cloth Chickadee Quilt.....DONE

This is my last day of machine quilting

on the Chickadee Whole Cloth Quilt...

I am in the third phase of quilting...

The Fill Work

I keep my paper design up on the wall (right)

so that I can view it while I am at the

Sweet 16

The center is quilted with triple lines.

I also scribble stitched around chickadee

to enhance the writing.

I also triple line stitched in the curved areas

All I have left to do are the 4 triangle areas...

Here is the BEFORE photo of the triangle...

Here is the AFTER photo of the triangle.

The machine quilting is DONE!

I used blue pen to mark the design lines.

I did not use ruler work.

This is all quilted free hand.

I ran in the house and soaked this in the tub

to remove all the blue pen:

Not a trace of blue ink anywhere...

It is now ready for a binding,

hanging sleeve and label.

This is entered in an exhibit this summer called...

Quilting Makes the Quilt

Many Thanks to Lisa Calle

for her inspiration and instruction

in whole cloth quilting.

The hydrangea in front of the house are

just beginning to bloom...

They really grab your attention!

  3. Gorgeous. I've been following your progress and it's so exciting to see the marvelous design your created with your quilting. Now that the blue ink is gone, I'll love seeing the completed quilt with the binding on, too.

  4. Many thanks for all of your very kind comments. Now that the fun part is over, I need to spur myself on to get the finish work done and get it ready for exhibit.

  6. Oh, LuAnn, your quilt is wonderful! Congratulations on doing an outstanding job. I am amazed that you did such nice straight lines without a ruler. I know, I know, practice, practice, practice....

  7. Hi Doreen,

I am blocking the quilt before I bind it. Yes, this piece needs blocking because of the thick wool batting. For the most part it lays really flat, but the very outside edges just want to ripple a tiny bit. Blocking should help it to hang flat when on the wall.

  8. Hi LInda,

The Superior Threads MicroQuilters is just perfect for wholecloth quilting, it is very forgiving and hides all of the mistakes. Not every line is straight, some wobble a bit, but when you look at the quilt as a whole, your eye sees all straight lines.

  9. Simply beautiful!!! I love how you continued the design of the triple lines in the center - provides continuity but allows the Chickadees (both of them)to shine! You did a marvelous job on this quilt!!!
