Fabric Dyeing.....Microwave Style

The Permission 2 Play group

gathered together to

Dye Fabric in the Microwave!

Just a couple of minutes in the microwave...

your fabrics are dyed and ready to wash and dry!

The microwave heats them well above

140 degrees.

MX Fiber Reactive Dye Powder

Pre-Mixed Dye Concentrates

2 tsp dye powder to 8 ounces water

Pre-Mixed Soda Ash

also from Dharma Trading

Let's unpack and get ready for class...

The students will be dyeing:

Flour Sack Dish Towels

Fat Quarter sized Fabric

Bamboo Socks

22 students in class today

Everyone was having so much FUN

we didn't get many photos taken

during class.....sorry.

Here is Kae with her flour sack dish towel

66 fiber items were dyed in a 3 hour class...

The students took their dyed items home

in ziploc baggies.

At home, they washed them in hot water

and dried them.

I hope they bring them to class next month for

show 'n tell so we can see what they created!

  1. Love this! I've been wanting to buy a microwave for my dye studio, and now I will just have to! Love that book too.

  2. You do so many fun projects! I love all that you do and that you share so much! You are an inspiration LuAnn and a sweetheart too. If I lived in Oregon, I would ask you to adopt me, lol!!!!!! Then I could play in your shed!
