It was great to get the basting completed on the
Winding Ways/Wheel of Mystery Quilt
This has been my take-a-long quilt for several years...
It is all hand pieced.....I love those curves:
It is time to think about the quilting design...
I printed out a few blocks:
I can draw out different designs on paper
to see what works
Feathers are always a favorite.....#1
I like the geometric feel of this one.....#2
One big feather covers the entire block......#3
I also printed out several blocks on a paper:
This will help me see
how the designs look as a whole...
#1 and #2 accentuate those hand pieced curves
#3 obliterates and covers up the curves
I am leaning toward #1

Gorgeous quilt and colours. Love all designs (my fav. is #1.), but whatever you'll choose will be equally beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNice work! I took a class using this pattern with John Flynn and I hated the machine piecing!!! It was just too difficult, particularly that skinny piece. I hadn't thought of hand sewing it...hmmmm. Love your quilting ideas.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and vibrant colors! I like #2 quilting design best; it utilizes the design of the Winding Ways, whereas the feather (#1) slightly confuses it. The large feather also fights with the WW crisp design. I enjoy your blog and your beautiful land!

Yum {fresh eggs!} and... the quilt is simply striking; gulp-hand pieced! I love the #1; agree as it accentuates those sweetly pieced curves. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI love #1 - it just makes the whole quilt move. #2 would be my second choice. And, when we had egg layers, we washed our eggs the same way! Love the idea of printing out a practice block for quilting designs! Maybe I'll have an easier time choosing a design for my quilt tops. :-) Love your blog - if we were closer I think we woud be great friends. :-)

ReplyDeleteI love your Winding Ways quilt. I like quilting choices #1 and #2, but think that #1 is more interesting. Will you be quilting it on your Sweet Sixteen? I just bought the Babylock Tiara and look forward to any posts that you do regarding quilting on your SS.
