BIG Round Bales

The Round Bales are fed to the Cows and Yearling Cattle
throughout the fall, winter and early spring.
This morning we are feeding the
yearling cattle...
With the round bales
this has become a one person job...
Round Bales are much more efficient
than small hand bales
Because they are young,
the yearlings are interested in playing with Gunnr.
A metal round bale feeder is placed over the hay...
This prevents the cattle from stomping the hay while eating...
There is less waste and the hay stays cleaner...
The calves will eat this in a day or two...

The days are getting warmer...
The grass is beginning to grow...
We won't be feeding hay for much longer.

Having seen those round bales around in fields, I would never have guessed the could be moved by one person. Thanks for sharing all of the photos.

ReplyDeleteThe big round bales are about 6 feet in diameter and weight about 1,000 pounds.
They are loaded with a tractor onto the bed of the pick up. If you notice, they are loaded so they hang off the back of the pick up, so gravity plays a big part when my husband pushes it off the back of the pick up.
