Challenge Quilt......Part 7

One last peek at the Challenge Quilt in Progress:

The 24 Kt Gold thread highlights the spine of the feather nicely.

The burgundy thread was a bit too dark down the center of the feather, the gold thread brightened it up just enough.

The 24Kt Gold thread is a Rayon...

I was using a size 80 topstitch needle.
I changed to a 90 and no more fraying problems with the thread.

At this point all of the quilting is finished...

It's time to block the quilt and trim it up square.

Aaah....it feels so good to get those rough edges trimmed off.

The binding is sewn down to the top side...

Time to go back in the house and cuddle up on the couch and hand sew the back side of the binding...

Almost Done!

The Challenge Quilts will be REVEALED at our Quilters Holiday Luncheon Monday, December 13th...

Until then, I can't show the entire quilt.

  2. Love the quilting on your Challenge Quilt. Do you mark the feathers before quilting? I have a feeling you are so good at it, you just go for it! :)

  3. Hi Helen,

I chalk out a single guideline all the way around the border, however I don't mark each feather.
I spent years marking all my quilts, and it became a chore for me, so I learned free motion quilting, and enjoy the process so much more now.
Patsy Thompson has wonderful DVD's that teach you just how to do it.
