Horse Quilts in Yakima Washington...

I just returned from a trip to Yakima Washington to spend time with my sister.

We decided we would both like to get our Horse Quilts started...

Here is a slideshow of all of the fun we had:

A special thanks to Toni Whitney for creating this incredibly easy pattern. It was a joy to follow and made every step fun!

After we completed the horse heads, we went to my sister's local quilt shop and chose background and border fabrics......we are ready to complete the rest of the quilt soon.

  5. I was completely intimidated by this pattern when I saw it at the local quilt shop, but you made it look like fun! I loved your wonderful slide show and listening to Chris LeDoux's voice made me cry. Love his music! Perfect song. Your horses turned out fabulous!

  6. This pattern goes together like butter.
    No piecing, no matching points.....
You lay the master pattern down on the table and tape it so it won't move.
Then cover it with a teflon pressing sheet or parchment paper.
I prefer Steam A Seam Lite 2 Fusible Web. It sticks in place securely while you are building the horse head.
Then when you are done, you can fuse it with an iron.
Don't hesitate to make this quilt......Toni Whitney labels all the pattern pieces by number and you put them on in numerical order, so there is no guess work.
The horse head goes together nicely.
The pieces are small, but that what makes this quilt so magnificent......the strands of horse hair blowing in the wind.

  9. Amazing!! Your blog is a treasure.....Did you glue each piece of fabric on the teflon sheet? How does it stay in place until the end, before ironing?

  10. Hello Anonymous,
The fabric is first fused with Steam A Seam 2 Lite, then it is cut out and placed on the teflon non-stick sheet. Steam A Seam 2 Lite is sticky and will remain in place without fusing. After the entire horse is assembled, then I fuse it all together with an iron. After it cools, I peel it off the teflon sheet and it is one piece.
