Bindings Hanging Sleeves Labels

Up to my ears in Bindings, Hanging Sleeves & Labels

Suzy

I got off the couch while sewing a quilt label on this clam shell quilt and when I returned someone had made themselves cozy...

I really don't have any interesting images to share with you of the bindings, hanging sleeves and labels. I am preparing 20 quilts for a show in September.

I am racing the clock this week as we prepare to leave for Colorado.
I need to get all of the prep work done and get these quilts "Show" ready.
My living room has 20 quilts draped over the couches.

I never mastered the use of a thimble for hand stitching, so my fingers look like chop meat.....and now they are covered with white medical tape.

As of today, all of the bindings and hanging sleeves are sewn down.
I have 5 more labels to sew on the back of the last 5 quilts.

Tomorrow I will spend the day typing up all of the signage for the show and mounting it on black construction paper.....to be hung next to each quilt in the exhibit.

I am coming into the home stretch.......and it feels wonderful!

p.s. I also plan to print up a few signs..."PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH QUILTS" Apparently Suzy never learned to read.

May Your Bobbin Always Be Full,
LuAnn

  2. BUMBLE BEANS,
I have learned my lesson.......on all future quilts as soon as the binding is done, the hanging sleeve and label go on the quilt too!
My poor fingers are hurting the last few days from all the hand stitching........I am trying to teach myself to wear a thimble.......but I feel like all thumbs when I have it on. The white medical tape seems to work best.

  3. I can't seem to work a thimble either. I hear ya on the chopped up looking fingers...my calluses are working themselves off...and my fingerpricks are beginning to disappear from my last hand-stitching adventure. I have got to start putting labels on mine. What do you normally do label wise? And are they all different, or pretty much all the same?

  4. Hi Becky,
I seem to include a lot of information on my labels, so hand written labels are out for me. I do best typing up the label on the computer, then printing it out on the fabric printer sheets that are found at the department stores. I use a portion of my quilt (from a photograph) and print that out first on the fabric sheets.....then I reload it in the printer.....then print out my label signage. Makes for a pretty label.
I can make 2 labels from one fabric printer sheets.
    Good Luck with your Labeling,

  5. LeAnn, Suzy is tooo cute! Great idea about the labels, I'm going to try that! My my, you're ambitious! Maybe you should enlist some help to do the bindings and labels. Good luck at the show, wish I was in the area so I could attend. Love the clamshell quilt! I inherited one and they're amazing to me.

  6. Your quilts looks so pretty. I love pictures one and four, your pup is so darn cute and sure seems to love your quilts. It's never to late to learn how to use a thimble.Just wear it during the day and before you know it you won't be able to do without it and you'll save your fingers.

  7. Suzy has been part of this family for nearly 15 years. She started out as my son's dog when he was 10. He is off to college the last few years and she has become my shadow, spending countless hours asleep in her bed under my sewing machine.

  8. Esteemarlu,
That is the best thimble advice I have ever received!
I will do that......put it on my finger and wear it all the time until I don't know any different.
    Thanks for the advice,

  9. I also can't stand the feeling of a thimble. I found something called "Thimble Pad" made by 3M. It's a little leather pad with a good adhesive on the back that you stick to your finger that you use to push the needle with. I find it's small enough that it doesn't get in the way and it's strong enough that it really saves the finger tips. Here's a link that I found on the web to one place that sells it:

I just got mine at a local quilt shop. good luck with all bindings.

  10. Hi Vicki,
You won't believe this........I bought those thimble pads years ago.......I just dug them out from under the cupboard.........with your encouragement.......I will try them. I think I never tried them because I thought the adhesive wouldn't hold good enough and they would come off and frustrate me. Thanks for recommending them.
