Improv Piecing and Spring in Western Oregon...

I am trying to finish up some improv pieces

I started back in 2020...

I put a few up on the design wall...

I have a good start...

I think I will make lots more !

I went through the scrap bag and found pieces

leftover from a hexagon quilt I made

quite a few years ago:

I separated the scraps by color...

Doesn't this just make you want to

sit down and stitch?

While I stitch improv triangles,

I can see how they work together

across the room on the design wall...

I haven't spent too much time

at the sewing machine lately...

I have been behind the wheel of the tractor

spraying tansy in the pastures here at home...

The goats are not very happy about

that noisy tractor in their pasture !

These Boer Goats love to eat

the blackberry vines in our fields...

I call them our "Weed Eaters."

They love to come up to the yard fence

and beg for Ritz crackers...

Our Canada Geese population

is really growing the last few years:

The geese in the pasture were not bothered

at all by the tractor...

They continued to graze while

I drove the tractor around...

The Iris bed is beginning to bloom:

It is FUN to watch for the first blooms

each Spring...

The Hostas are beginning to emerge...

The Rhodie buds are just opening...

Our calving season ended in May and we have

lots of beautiful calves in the pastures:

We drove across the river to check on the

replacement heifers

and their first calves...

They are young and curious and come right up

to our vehicle to check us out...

Within minutes, we are surrounded by them...

Always FUN to spend time with the young cattle !

Quilt Retreat....Day 5

Look at this gorgeous Quilt !

My aunt made this and I fell in love with it...

I foolishly decided I needed to make it too !

I have been working on this on Mondays

@ the Quilt Palace:

Reflected Harmony

Quilt Kit

16 different fabrics....neatly labeled

Here we go.....Month 1:

Month 2:

Months 1 and 2.....on the Design Wall

Here it is Day 5 of the Quilt Retreat:

I whipped out Month 3 and began cutting...

There was so much cutting to do,

I just had to find a way to

organize all of the pieces:

Zip Loc bags to the rescue...

Most of these squares are 1.5 inches...

This was a bit of a nightmare !

By the end of the retreat,

all I managed to do was complete the cutting:

I pitched the baggies in a bowl and

left them by my machine

to stitch together next Monday...

We all had a great time at Quilt Retreat:

especially the Quilt Palace Kitty !

Quilt Retreat....Day 4

Just had to start out with Linda's

wonderful Pumpkin Seed quilt top:

She started this a year ago and has been

diligently stitching on it every Monday...

Yes, each petal is surrounded with Ric Rac

Larissa is putting together her very first

Log Cabin Quilt top...

Debbie is making this Jelly Roll Hobo Bag...

It was FUN watching her stitch all of these

gorgeous batiks

The Quilt Palace Kitty

enjoyed chasing these long tubes

as Debbie stitched them.....yikes!

Here is the body of the bag

waiting for a handle...

Inside Pockets...

Finished Hobo Bag....Wonderful !

This is what Debbie did later in the day

when she couldn't find something:

Yup, we have all been there...

can't find something, so you rip it all apart,

end up cleaning out and organizing...

And, she put it all back together again !

Way to GO Debbie !

Anything can happen at Quilt Retreat...

The Quilt Palace Kitty has decided

he like's Linda's basket today...

Quilt Retreat....Day 3

Today at the Quilt Retreat I am stitching a

Project Bag

This Petal Power line of fabric is so FUN !

I am using the mini charm squares

to create the inside of the bag...

I have cut a chunk of Pellon Fusible Foam

as a base to lay out the mini charms...

Once the charm squares are pieced together,

I fused them onto the foam:

Then I stitched in the ditch

and quilted it all together...

So much quilting definition when stitching

through the foam...

At this point,  the top of the bag is complete

with the vinyl window section

stitched between the yellow fabrics...

The handle is sewn in with the binding

around the edge:

Project Bag:  22 inches square

Here it is with a smaller project bag

I made a few months ago:

I am ready to travel with my quilting projects !

This is the new Quilt Palace Kitten:

Last Autumn
Kitten....2 months of age

Kitten.......4 months old

Kitten today.....8 months old

It is FUN to watch him grow!

He finds everything Quilters do...just fascinating !

He has learned how to un-thread

the sewing machines,

which is not so fun for the Quilters...
