Improv.......Technique 8

After a busy morning checking on the cattle

and building fence...

this afternoon I decided to stop the world

and get off at the Thread Shed

I pulled some of my hand dyes

out of the cupboard

I sliced them up into random strips

between 1 1/2 to 4 inches wide

I started with a center square

and added strips around it.....on 3 sides

I trimmed after each strip was added

Adding the blue strips...

I am going for a slightly wonky block

Adding yellow strips...

All squared up

3 blocks stitched

You can watch me piece one more:

All done and squared up

4 Blocks stitched

6 Blocks stitched

It is now 7 pm and I have stitched 7 Blocks

This is what the sewing table looks like

at quitting time....lots more strips to play with

another day!

This is what kept me busy this morning:

This is a brand new baby.....Calf 54

And...

Calf 55

These are heifers due to calve....any day:

Lots more babies....on the way!

Sunflower Quilt.....Quilting Done

Remember this Sunflower quilt ?

It's been hanging around

basted and ready to quilt...

I quilted the center of the sunflower in January.

Today.....I decided to finish the quilting:

Here it is all trimmed and ready for the facing

Here are close-ups of the quilting:

This is all curved piecing.....no applique'

Batik Fabrics and my Hand Dyes

I used a long, curved ruler

to machine quilt all of those lines

I used 4 different shades of blue thread

for the background quilting

For the edge treatment,

I have decided a binding would be distracting

so I will face the edge.

No Sewing.....Farming

No sewing for me right now...

We are trying to finish up fertilizing

the hay fields and pastures

How stinkin' cute is Calf 52

I got a little too close

and he had to start bawling for mama cow !

The Cowboy and I are in the hay fields today.

There is a big fertilizer bin

on the back of the trailer...

The Cowboy runs the fertilizer bin...

He keeps the tractor fertilizer bin

filled up for me...

I have the cushy job riding inside of the tractor

spreading the fertilizer

This is my view as I drive along...

it was a gorgeous day here in Western Oregon

Just across the river is our place...

we fertilized it yesterday.

This is a photo of our place taken

during the summer time:

This has all been fertilized in the last 2 days.

Our house and red barn in center of photo,

big white cow barns across river in right of photo.

As you can see,

we are always isolated and quarantined,

no problem staying away from people.

We are enjoying the last of the tulips

in the front yard:

They are magnificent !

The Cowboy put up the bird house

he built for me years ago:

The Tree Swallows nest in here and

raise baby birds every Spring.
