I love making fabric wrapped bowls and I usually use scraps. They are addictive to make and are so pretty. Batiks look the best too. All of you ladies made beautiful bowls all in pretty colors and sizes and shapes.

ReplyDeleteVery cool. How wide is your fabric strip? Do you use glue to hold the ends together while wrapping? Is there a glue you can sew through?
ReplyDeleteHi Joni,
ReplyDeleteThe fabric strips are 3/4 of an inch wide. A glue stick is used to glue the strips together. You Tube has several videos so you can watch a fabric bowl being made.
Have FUN,

Hi LuAnn! I saw your post and I was wondering if you've ever seen my book "Sewing Pottery by Machine" (Martingale Publishing). I've taken this method to another place! It occurred to me that if I put a bowl on top of a basket and stitched them together, I could create an enclosed form! Take a look at my blog www.softpottery.blogspot.com to get the idea!
ReplyDeleteYour bowls are great! Barbara Warholic
Good Morning Barbara,
ReplyDeleteI took a few minutes to check out your fabric wrapped pottery…..just gorgeous. You are a master at your craft.
I lead free fiber art classes once a month for cancer survivors. Last November my friend Beth taught the students to create fabric wrapped bowls. She brought your book as inspiration for the students. You can see the blog post here:

Many thanks for inspiring all of us with your fiber art.
Wishing you continued success in all you do,

Wow, I love your wrapped bowls. I have made a couple but mine do not look like yours, lol. Yours are perfect. I am going to continue to make them hoping my technique will improve. Thank you for the inspiration.

Hello - fantastic tutorial - just what I've bee looking for! I have had several unsuccessful attempts at sewing rope bowls. Can anyone offer me any advice please?! My machine doesn't seem to like the rope I have tried (4mm cotton clothes line) and i wondered what type/thickness rope/cord you are using? And if you are using a special foot on your mahine? I'm so disappointed this hasn't worked out for me so far but enjoying seeig everyone's beautiful work. Thank you!

I've made quite a lot of these bowls and it is definitely a technique that gets better the more bowls you make! It's definitely a skill that improves as you go along. I've also discovered that these bowls take on a life of their own as you are making them. They sometimes don't look like the idea in your head when you started.
