Play Day......3D Fabric Folding

The Permission 2 Play Instructors

gathered together for a Play Day...

We are making samples for a future class:

3D Fabric Folding

Virginia's 3D Sunflower Quilt

Kathi is adding 3D petals to her flower

Nancy is adding a second row of petals to her flower

We are cutting squares in half

to form triangles for the petals

We are using the snippets technique

 for the flower center

Here is my center quilted and ready to cut out

My sunflower is ready for a center...

My completed sunflower

Kathi is stitching down her center...

Nancy's completed sunflower

Each instructor will take her flower home to complete

the edge treatment...

The flowers were completed in a bit over an hour,

so we feel this can be accomplished in a

3 hour P2P class.

At home I decided to embellish my flower...

With textile paints and stencils, I added chickadees

I also added a cord bound edge treatment

with round leather cording

My 3D Folded Fabric class sample.

  1. Ok, I am fascinated by the idea of a bound leather cording on the edge of a quilt. Where do you buy it, and how do you attach it? That may be just the ticket for a piece I am working on!

  5. These 3D sunflowers are gorgeous. Yours on the blue sky background is very happy. The stenciled birds and leaf branches are very fun. I love the corded edging and thank you for sharing your technique. Happy Hearts are Creative Hearts...

  6. I LOVE what you did with your sunflower. The flower in and of itself was wonderful; your addition of the birds fantastic!
