Auditioning Quilting Threads

King Tut Purple Variegated

I like the subtle color change of this King Tut Thread

Bubble Wrap was used to Jello Print those circle images!

Black Mettler Cotton Thread was used in the black bubble border
I also inlined the birds with it.

Auditioning Vine Threads for Outer Border

YLI Variations Green Thread

I drew a curvy line in the border.
This will help me as I quilt the vine.

This is my favorite marking tool.
It comes in powder, squares and pencils.
Just use an iron to remove the marks.

  1. Your step by step pictures really help me envision your creative processes. I knew about iron out pen but not chalk. I will investigate purchasing this. I love the way your quilting interacts with the printed images. Outstanding.

  2. Hi Janet,
You will LOVE the Miracle Chalk. I have it in all forms: powder, squares and chubby pencil. They all serve a marking purpose for me. The marks don't go away until you iron over them. I don't mark a great deal, but when I do I want the marks to remain until I no longer need them, and I want the removal to be fast and simple. This marking chalk does the job well.

  3. I bought the miracle chalk chubby pencil after seeing it here on your blog. I LOVE it! I really like to see your auditioning threads pictures. I have a difficulty sometimes choosing thread color for quilting and I learn a lot from seeing what does and doesn't work for you.

  5. Hi Lynn,
A good thread stash is just as important as a good fabric stash. It's best to pull a lot of threads when auditioning. Better to have too many choices, than limit yourself. Be sure to pull a few high contrast colors......sometimes they are just what the quilt needs. High sheen threads, like YLI Variations, and Rayon threads are becoming my favorites! They add a lot of punch to your stitching.
Glad you are enjoying the thread posts.
